Dell XPS 13 right side USB drive trouble

I've seen this problem already posted, but with no solution.

I have a brand-new Dell XPS 13. The right side USB drive functions, in that the drive shows up on Windows Explorer, and I can copy files to and from it. But autoplay on the right side does not function, so nothing happens when the drive is inserted. This only happens on thumb drives; hard drives seem to work. It's frustrating, because when I insert the thumb drive, I would like a window to pop up...but it doesn't work.

The left side USB port operates normally.

Any suggestions?

dell 7559 recurring BSOD driver_power_state_failure, auto-detect wants to reinstall same drivers over and over

Hi All, 

I'm having repeated issues with my 7559 purchased earlier this year.  Repeated BSOD's, etc.  Here are the issues:

  1. BSOD stops with a driver power state failure message, then a screen that says it needs to reboot, "gathering information, will restart for you" but it never does.
  2. Ridiculously slow response from File Explorer (spinning blue wheel)
  3. Office slow to open
  4. Office & other apps fall into a "non responding" state frequently
  5. Dell driver auto-detect wants to install the same driver over and over, with or without repeated restarts, run as administrator, etc

Can someone please help?  I've tried everything I've found in forums and on the web.  Absent a resolution here, next step is a warranty return + eBay + buy another brand.

Laptop problem, battery doesn't charge if laptop is on after 90%

Hello,

My laptop is an Alienware 17 R3 and I recently encountered the following problem:

While playing the witcher 3 and plugging the charger(battery was at 30%), my laptop started to switch between plugged-in and unplugged charger mode, every second, intermittently.

I tried many times to remove the battery, reinstall drivers and change the charger's wire but didn't fix my problem.

Doing many tests I realized that problem persists only when battery is < 90%~, above this there isn't any problem...

I don't know what is the cause and how to fix it, maybe can be the OS(Windows 10 last update), I don't know..

BIOS is also on latest version for my laptop.

Can you help me please? It's a very critical problem and I need help asap!

Power supply dead?

My XPS laptop fails to boot and battery is flat (tho' it is old).

The power adapter is cold and has no light on it.

BUT if I disconnect it from the laptop and re-plug it into the wall socket the light does come on.

However when I reconnect the adapter to the laptop, the light on it goes off again.

I assume this shows the PSU adapter has failed.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

Dell 1397 WLan Mini-card does not recognize particular wifi

The version of 1397 WLan Mini-card is 4.176.75.21 (Driver date 01/10/2008), just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

It recognizes other wireless connections, but not mine. The router is TP-LINK TD-8951ND. I proved installing/ uninstalling the Mini-Card, updating drivers several times, run an online-dell diagnosis tool, and checking DeviceManager/Properties/Advanced to try with other antenna channels (Fragmentation Threshold, IBSS, Locally Administrated MAC Address, etc.) but nothing works, and I can not access via web the IP of the router.

Any suggestions?

Thoughts on NEW ALIENWARE 17

The NEW ALIENWARE 17 laptops I am looking to purchase for University, to be used for 3D modelling such as inventor, Autodesk, CAD, etc etc. I will be studying Architecture. At the same time I would like to game on the laptop, mostly Steam Games, and Xbox Games. 

Which of the range of the models would have the right amount of capabilities for me to do all the things ? 

Not looking for the most powerful and most expensive, rather the correct specs for just what I need to do.

XPS 15 9550 Thunderbolt 3 port not configured to advertised speed

There have been several reports of the Thunderbolt 3 port on the XPS 15 9550 (and 13 9350) being configured to a PCI 2x port instead of the more usual PCI 4X port. Users have been reporting speeds of up to 16 Gbps, only half of the advertised speed (40 Gbps) which should be 32 Gbps (with overheads) for data.

The result is significantly reduced TB performance to comparable machines, especially when using an external GPU set up.

If this is not hardwarematically configured as such, it may be possible this could be fixed with a firmware update. What is Dell's position on this?

My solution to the hinge problem (no Dell help obv.)

Hi there, maybe this will help. I ended up buying a new top and bottom frame because of the crack and broken screw socket inside. I untighened the horizontal screen bolt on each side right next to the hinge AND poured some Epoxy glue around every screw socket close to the hinges inside the frame. Then reinstalled the motherboard and everything else.

I spend about 70 USD for all the parts an glue and about 3 hours of work. Worth it, I'm still using this laptop and it works like a charm.

Moral of the story: Always open a brand new laptop to loosen the screen bolts (and maybe pour epoxy to add strenght to the frame.) If you don't want  to buy a new laptop every 18 months. Cause Dell will NOT help you with this kind of issues.

I think most laptop are designed to break like this after the waranty is over... funny isn't it?

Dell Inspiron 15 i5559-4682SLV Signature Edition Laptop with two external monitors?

Hi, I recently just purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 i5559-4682SLV Signature Edition Laptop and would like to connect my two external monitors to it (with having the laptop itself closed). Both monitors I have contain a DVI to DVI or VGA to VGA ports/cables. Since I don't have a DVI or VGA port on the laptop, is it still possible to use my two external screens? If so, what device would you recommend? I've done research into this but I'm getting confused on what I need if this laptop has the capability to do this.

Inspiron 15Z 1523 won't come on

Laptop stopped working today.  My daughter said it had a blue screen indicating there were issues.  There was a troubleshooting button and shut down button.  She initially selected the troubleshooting one but she said nothing happened.  Then she selected the shut down one.  Now the laptop doesn't come on.  The AC power is fine and the power light is on and the fan starts to spin for a short time and then stops spinning.  Nothing ever comes on the screen.  What troubleshooting options do I have?  I've already done the reset button by the memory and tried holding down power key for awhile and booting while pressing F12.  Nothing makes any difference.

Hardisk Failed Error Code 2000-142

My Dell Inspiron 3521 with win 8.1 fell from table, then I tried to restart but it cannot boot and screen displayed

Checking Media [fail]

I ran Diagnostics but the error code generated was

Error Code 2000-142

Validation 96672

Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N S2WZJ90D341179, Short self test unsuccessful.

 


I searched forum it was a hard disk problem. Then I used bootable usb stick with UBUNTU on it to check if files could be still accessed. Disabled secure boot and changed UEFI to legacy boot, restarted my machine and again  'Checking Media [Fail]'  msg displayed and then it booted into UBUNTU.

My drives were visible. I had Two Partition 700GB (NTFS) and 260 GB(FAT 32), 260 GB was accessible, i can browse through files but i could not open majority of them especially big ones. The error displayed was internal data stream error.

What is the solution to this problem ? is it necessary to replace hard disk, Is there any way by which i could recover my files?

Single beep on power on

Hi.

I have dell inspiron 5520, when powered on the screen becomes black and the is single beep . which continues after small intervals. I counted no. of beeps and found it is a single one repeating. Plzz provide any solution.

Laptop Power Issue

Good Day

I have a Dell Latitude E5530 which was given to me as the guy says it was not working properly.

When I power it up the CPU fan runs for a few seconds . The laptop wants to post and then shuts off and then the LEDs come on as follows: Wifi Light  : Solid: Power : Flashing: HDD Light: Solid . I have re seated  the ram modules. What could be the solution as the guy who gave me the laptop said the laptop fell side ways. No damage to the screen though. Is the mainboard damaged?

DELL XPS13 9350 PXE over D3100

Dear all,

I have recently purchased a new DELL XPS 13 9350 and a Dell Docking Station D3100, this combinations is for enterprise use and i would like to boot latpop over PXE in order to deploy our OS .

I tried to do this and enable all the Bios functions for this but the docking station doesnt recognized when laptop boot up .

Also i have updated to latest BIOS,any ideas or advises on these issue will be appreciated .

Dell inspiron 15 R black screen with non stop beep sound on powered.

I Have tried counting the Beep but it's a non stop beeping. When powered on the screen remain black  (no display) with the continuous beep. 

I cannot even see the BIOS. I have tried draining the static current by holding down the power button but failed. I have seen a post similar to this one but with no solution.

Please help!

Venue 11 Pro crashes when travel keyboard attached

I have a Dell Venue 11 Pro (7140) with a separate travel keyboard (the one with internal battery)

The combo has been working well but it's now stopped. The tablet is fine but as soon as I connect the keyboard the tablet shuts down.

I've found this firmware upgrade for the keyboard - which says it "Improved power stability while docking the system" which sounds like it would help but I can't install it because it needs the keyboard to be attached and I can't attach it because the tablet immediately shuts down.

I've tried starting up the tablet with the keyboard attached (to see if it's the actual connection action causing the problem) but that doesn't work at all.

Any ideas who I can fix the keyboard?

Latitude Boot up on Docking Station with Lid closed

Hey guys,

I have a latitude e7450 on a Dell E-Port Replicator Docking Station with USB 3.0, with an external monitor attached to the docking station.

When I boot up the laptop with the lid closed on the docking station, if freezes on the "dell" logo,

and does not get pass that to the windows welcome screen. I tried using the power button on the docking station to no avail. So I have to open the lid whenever I power up the system and it's really frustrating.

Is there a fix to this or is the system rigged to not boot up to windows whenever the lid is closed?

XPS 15, battery performances dropped suddenly

Dear community,


My XPS battery used to work fine (~3-4 hours of battery life). Since yesterday, the battery does not last more than 1 hour! It is quite disturbing since I have not installed any new software, and I am always careful not to let the battery go under 5% (in order to avoid complete battery discharge which can be fatal).

Now I am unable to use my laptop during a conference/meeting if I cannot plug it in. This is very annoying as I am often traveling for my job.

I have tried with both Windows 8.1 and Linux: with both systems, the battery does not last more than one hour. I have also tried the Dell diagnostic tool but it does not detect any issue.

Any recommendation?
