Built-in Dell defect?

$

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop, with a touch screen about half a year ago and have had nothing but problems with it.

I have spent hours and hours one the phone with Dell, who finally acknowledged a defect.

When attempting to use the laptop, small "circles" appear at the bottom of the scree, bouncing up and down.

This is followed by the rapid-fire opening and closing of various windows on the screen, rendering the unit unusable. Dell had me send it to them for repair, and I received it back today. It's doing the same thing, no one tested the unit prior to sending back to me.

I am very frustrated and greatly regret buying this unit as it remains defective.

What options can Dell offer me, given that this unit has never worked, despite many, many hours of back and forth, which I am no longer prepared to do, given the lack of results so far.

I have video showing how this unit  malfunctions. This is a nightmare.

Dell Inspiron 15r 5520 powers off immediately when plugged in

Hello,

Another post to show how bad dell hardwares are:

My laptop powers off suddenly whenever I plugged in the charger. When it runs in battery, it is fine. But as soon as I plugged in, it powers off.

I purchased new battery ---> no change, still powers off when AC adapter plugged in.

I replaced AC adapter ----> no change, still powers off when AC adapter plugged in.

Removed battery and when run only in AC power---> powers off.

Now what I have to do? Replace the mother board?

Let me tell you how bad your hardware *** is:

1. Back in 2012, when I purchased this I got mic/camera not working issue. Called Dell and they replaced the entire mother board for this. ( since it was in warranty, I was quite OK with that )
. But wondered how bad the hardware is. i.e within six months of purchase hardware failure.

2.  Once when the warranty got over, immediately after one year another issue came up. It won't charge the battery while plugged in. This time I contacted Dell and they replaced the whole motherboard (sigh!!!) for this. They charged INR 10,000 for this.

3. Next after a year after the above incident happend, they keyboard didn't work. I purchased a new one and replaced it myself.

4. Now, when I plug the AC adapter to charge the laptop, it immediately powers off. I'm 100% sure again I have to change the motherboard. ( I'm not sure the mother board for this model is in stock or not ) .

This is a series of hardware failure within 4 years. I heard that Dell gets the faulty motherboard and refurbish and then gives back to customers. That is the reason for these hardware failures. MAN, how many times one has to change Motherboard?

PS: I will never ever recommend dell to any one and won't buy one myself in the future due to these above mentioned shits.

Missing Power Plans brand new xps13 (Heat issues)

G'day,

Looking for guidance re: a really hot machine and missing power profiles/control.

I just received by new Dell XPS 13-9360 Core i5-7200U X2 2.5GHz machine today.

I've been modifying power options, and found that I ONLY have a balanced profile with very little control over settings. I have no access to what others have mentioned, such as power saver or high performance. All I've been able to view or change is setting options to sleep, hibernate, or turn off.

I've accessed this through the control panel and the intel graphics settings.

I only use laptops on a hard surface. It was shrink wrapped new, so the vents are likely not blocked by dust.

My main concern: Using only word and a web browser, my keypad is already running quite warm. I'm not a gamer, I haven't been watching videos, but within 20 minutes the keyboard itself is really warm. The fan is running continually. Since the entire point of my laptop is to do a lot of word-processing writing, email, and research browsing, this doesn't bode well for my main source of work. I purchased the xps13 for great battery life, but it seems to only be granting about 4.5 hours.

What are my options or possible solutions?

Dell XPS 13 L321x - Bad MB

Hi,

I recently brought a Dell XPS 13 L321x from the company I used to work for (It only cost £20). I've been looking around online for a replacement MB and I'm struggling to find one in either the UK or Europe. I wondered if anyone could tell me if Dell still stock these, I believe it's a 2012 build. If Dell still stock them, do you know how much a like-for-like would cost? I can provide any details such as ST or ESC via PM if a Dell rep is able to help or point me in the right direction.

Many thanks

PowerEdge T20 won't power up, power button & fans repeatedly turn on/off forever

1 year old. Press the power button, power button lights up amber, then white, CPU fan spins up briefly, then a beep and the power button turns off and the fan shuts down. Three seconds later the cycle repeats forever until I depress the power button for 5 seconds.

Is this a bad power supply? A bad motherboard?

Hello. Need help guys. I am stock. I have big problem with bios.

I have Dell Latitude E6530.

I had bios version A12. I need to upgrade bios to A13. I red that I need to downgrade to A03 than write A13. After successful downgrade I went to bios to switch SATA to AHCI. After apply this I got black screen. I wait 20 minutest and nothing changed. I turned OFF and On, and laptop didn't boot. I opened case to remove CMOS battery and I saw that battery cords are damaged. I live in small city. There is no Dell service. Local service found image of same laptop model and flashed it directly into bios chip. After this laptop boots normaly. But I can not upgrade or downgrade bios.

I have same serial. but other mac address.

Off bios runs well but after restart nothing happens. Under Windows 10 or DOS (pen drive) nothing works to write bios.

I downloaded FPT and try to flash bios but I receive  Error 280: Failed to disable write protection for the BIOS space!

Here are screen shots of OFF flash utility.

How I can update my bios?

PLS help me. There is no information in Internet about my problem ((((

XPS 15 9550 Thunderbolt 3 port not configured to advertised speed

$

There have been several reports of the Thunderbolt 3 port on the XPS 15 9550 (and 13 9350) being configured to a PCI 2x port instead of the more usual PCI 4X port. Users have been reporting speeds of up to 16 Gbps, only half of the advertised speed (40 Gbps) which should be 32 Gbps (with overheads) for data.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5hl5i4/xps_15_9550_not_able_to_reach_40gbps_over_tb3/

https://egpu.io/forums/pc-setup/xps-15-9550-not-able-to-reach-40gbps-over-tb3/

The result is significantly TB reduced performance to comparable machines, especially when using an external GPU set up.

If this is not hardwarematically configured as such, it may be possible this could be fixed with a firmware update. Will this be coming?

Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 boot issues *** NEED help ***

Hi

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 bought in 2014

Running Windows 10, 8GB of RAM, 1TB of HDD

Bios (DELL Inc A08 4/30/2014

Bios mode UEFI (secure boot deactivated)

For the last 2-3 weeks my laptop has boot issues. From a regular start or a reboot!

It can take 30 secs to see the DELL logo up to 2-3 hours... YES up to 2 or 3 hours before the DELL logo appears. In average I would say 25 to 45 mins before the DELL logo appears. After when the DELL logo appears it boots correctly in Windows 10 and the laptop does not look to have any performance issues.

All of this started when the DELL system detected that newer hardware drives were available and a newer BIOS A09.

  • Installation of the new drivers for the hardware were completed without any issue. Laptop rebooted and final confirmation was given that new drivers were installed successfully.
  • Then I did the BIOS. The EXE started... showed me on the screen that my current bios was A08 and that the new one to be installed was A09. A command prompt window opened requesting asking if I wanted to proceed and type Y. Saw a % on the screen of the "flash" process and then the laptop rebooted. And I waited... and waited... more than 1 hour and still nothing. Blank screen. Power light on... HD light flickered and stopped. I waited 30 more minutes and I pressed the power button. Laptop powered of and I restarted it. Since then you don’t know when the laptop will boot. I tried to redo the bios update. Even re-installed Windows. Check HDD connection… is the BIOS simply corrupted? Any suggestions?

Thanks

ps: forgot to add when trying to flash the bios to the new version I get this message

InsydeH20 - Secure Flash

Error : Invalid firmware image!!!

Please press any key to reset system......

XPS 13 9350 SSD upgrade from SATA3 to PCIe?

$

Hello,

I recently bought a XPS 13 with a 128gb ssd with the intention of upgrading it.

With the new PCIe SSDs available I wanted to see if I could possibly upgrade my XPS13 to one of those. However, I am not sure the PCIe would be compatible as the SSD the laptop came with was a SATA3 drive. Does anyone know if it is possible to switch out the sata3 drive with a PCIe? In one of the SSD upgrade tutorials I read for the XPS13 there appeared to be some disagreement on whether or not it was possible. I would rather not waste the time and money buying one if it is not compatible in the first place.

Thanks in advance.
