I'm planning on upgrading my RAM on my computer, and according to the owner's manual in the
"Before you start" section, it talks about how to ground your system. It says that after your computer is shut down, unplugged from the outlet, and all attached devices are removed, to press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to ground the system board. However, when I press and hold the power button, the computer just boots up normally. I've tried several times and I'm unsure of what the solution is.
Here are all 5 steps in the "Before you boot" section:
1. Save and close all open files and exit all programs.
2. Follow the instructions to shut down your computer based on the operating system installed on your computer (Windows 10 for me)
3. Disconnect your computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets.
4. Disconnect all telephone cables, network cables, and attached devices from your computer.
5. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds, after the computer is unplugged, to ground the system board.
Removing the RAM is very simple, with a panel on the back that's easily removed to switch it out. However, removing the battery is significantly more complicated, involving taking off the whole back panel, so that isn't really an option for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
