M6400 memory speed seems slow

$

I have an M6400 running BIOS A13.  8GB DDR3-1600 RAM installed (4x2GB).

I rum Memtest86+ and reports the memory is being access at 3,917 MB/s.  That seems awfully slow for DDR3.  On my other units running DDR3, memory speed is closer to 8000 to 12000 MB/s.  This memory of speed of less than 4000MB/s is more like DDR2 ram speeds.

I have allowed Memtest86+ to run for a day on this machine with no memory errors and no over-heating.

I have reset the BIOS to factory defaults...just in case.

All four memory modules are identical in maker and model (I am OCD like that).

Memtest86+ is reporting the memory bus running at 561MHz (DDR3-1123).

The machine is still in good working order (or it seems so) and I would like to keep it around for some low level computing tasks, but not if this memory speed is indication of some sort of chip failure.

Problem trying to switch hard drive from Studio 1737 to Studio 1747? Can't Boot.

Hey all --

I'm trying to switch drives from a Dell Studio 1737 to a Dell Studio 1747.

I have an existing Dell Studio 1737 that runs on a SSD with Windows 10 installed.  It runs fine.

Yesterday, I bought a Dell Studio 1747 that has a regular HD with Windows 7 installed.  It runs fine.

I tried switching the SSD from the 1737 to the main hard drive bay in the 1747, but when I tried to boot, I get a repeating PXE-MOF: existing PXR ROM and PXE-E61:  Media Test Failure error.  It just repeats over and over again.

I've switched drives before, and have never had this problem.  Any suggestions?  Are SSDs not compatible with a 1747 or something?

Windows will not install on Smasung PM951 1TB SSD - Alienware 17 R3

Like the title says, I just purchased an Alienware 17 R3 w/ a Samsung PM951 1TB NVMe SSD.  I know it works because the computer came with Windows 10 installed on the 1TB 7200RPM Hard Disk (SLOW!).  I could read/write to the SSD just fine when booting from the 7200 RPM drive.  The Samsung SSD also shows up in the bios just fine.

Windows 10 will not seem to find the Samsung SSD when I go to install.  Keeps telling me no drives can be found (I pulled the other drive to isolate things).  I have tried the recovery flash drive that came with the computer as well as my own ISO of Windows 10.

Any ideas?  I thought this Skylake Laptop should play well with NVMe?

M1330 Broadcom drivers for Win 7 32-bit

I want to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 32-bit on my old M1330.

Microsoft Upgrade Analyzer says I need to download/save a new driver for Broadcom Netlink Fast Ethernet before I upgrade to Win 7 then install Win 7, and then finally update the Broadcom driver from the saved file.

I can't find the specific Win 7 Broadcom driver on the Dell site and I can't determine which driver to download from the Broadcom site.

Any help would be appreciated.

My V14T-5470-A20 doesn't turn off

Hi;

I have this Dell laptop model V14T-5470-A20 with Windows 10 Pro x64.

My problem is that when I shut down my computer, it does not turn completely off. The energy light remains lit and the fans continue to spin.

My temporary solution is to force through the power button to shut down.

I believe that this can lead to corruption of files and I'd like a definitive solution to this situation.

Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

XPS 13 (9333) CPU down clocked?

I'm running the developer edition of this laptop and since day 1 I've never seen it hit it's 3.1GHz published clock speed.

Has Dell down clocked these laptops or is it something with mine? Can other 9333 dev-edition owners comment? Has anyone seen the published maximum clock speed hit even for a second?

Using powertop on linux, as well as CPU frequency monitoring the most I've seen is 2.8GHz and almost always sitting around 2.5GHz under heavy load. Where's the rest of my GHz?

Is it possible to reset Security Tools Administrator password?

$

I've used the Dell Data Protection | Security Tools program to activate encryption on a self-encrypting drive on a Windows 7 machine. The system is operating normally and I know the password that's registered with PBA so I can unlock the drive. However, I realized that I do not know the Administrator password for Security Tools itself (not Windows--that one I know). As a result, I can't add other user accounts to those that are registered with PBA.

I have a disc that was created during the setup process that has a "Dell Security Tools Backup Data" folder with an "OpalSPKey.<machine>.recovery.dat" file. Is this file usable to reset the Security Tools administrator password? Is there some other way?

That disc also has a backup File System Encryption Key. I know what that is for, but I figure now is the time to ask: if I need to recover the filesystem, how do I use that disc to do so? I'd rather learn now than when I need it last minute.

TB15 Appears to overheat. Monitors (HDMI and Mini DP) flicker off frequently

I updated all the drivers and TB 15 firmware and the drivers on the XPS side too.  Using with an XPS 13 (9350).

I have the three USBs on the back of the dock, the HDMI and Mini Display port plugged in.  The TB15  gets rather warm.  After I have been working for 15-20 minutes the monitors both lose connection at the same time and then have to cycle back up.  Once this happens once it begins to happen about every minute.

This appears to me to be an overheating issue.  Bad unit?  Bad product?  Should I send this thing back and go to the cheap dock?

Touchpad issue with Inspiron 7348, Windows 8.1, no sensitivity adjustment for touch pad

My Windows 8.1 equipped 7348 has the touchpad freaking out quite a few times a day. Still in warranty but can't seem to get much of a response from Dell Tech Support. Tried their 'chat' but after waiting 45min. the touchpad freaked when I finally got someone on the other end... it ended up closing the window. No happy.

Anyone have an idea how to set the sensitivity on this thing to 'sledge-hammer'?

XPS15 boot dvd

I  have a brand new XPS-15 (5550). I've made a DVD recovery DVD using an external DVD writer but I haven't been able to boot it. I found the article at  https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN142679/EN/ so I've been following it to make a manual boot option. The article doesn't tell me what should be in the File System List field of the Add Boot Option field.

I don't see DVD mentioned in the field and I can't modify the field - if I click on the existing text which is highlighted, it remains highlighted. If I try to delete it by using the Delete key nothing happens.

Is anyone able to tell me how to make a functional boot option?

Thanks

Mike
