How do I purchase an Inspiron 17 with an AZERTY keyboard?

$

I've tried the obvious things: on the UK web site it's not an option, the chat person says that they don't do them, the .fr site offers it but fails at checkout ( my French is poor, could have done something wrong). I just want an otherwise 'normal i.e. English, laptop but with an AZERTY keyboard.

I'm aware that I can modify the keyboard through the Control Panel and have ordered some stickers to experiment with, but the above would be my preferred option.

Is there a number, a person, in Dell who would facilitate this?

Advice needed configuring a new Precision 17 7000 laptop

Hi,

I'm trying to configure a new Precision 17 7000 laptop using the wizard on the (dutch) Dell website. Some of the options that I can choose from are not clear to me and the 'help' button in the wizard doesn't really help (and neither did google..). Hopefully someone here can enlighten me on the differences between the options presented and the meaning of some abbreviations.

The wizard asks me to choose from three options in the secion 'base options'. The options are (translated from dutch):

i7-6820HQ, no smartcard reader, without type C, foot, Mobile Precision 7710
i7-6820HQ, only smartcardreader, foot, Mobile Precision 7710
i7-6820HQ, only smartcardreader, with type C, foot, Mobile Precision 7710

I tried to contact Dell and ended up talking to a 'Dell partner'. The guy I talked to suggested this had something to do with a docking station. If it does, then what has a 'smartcard reader' and a 'type C' (which is a type of USB connector, right?) has to do with it? And what does 'foot' refer to?

Continuing with the wizard I have to pick a harddisk. I'd like to have a SSD as my primary disk and I see the following options:

512 GB M.2 PCIe Solid State-harddisk, MPWS
512 GB M.2 PCIe powerfull Solid State-harddisk

What does 'MPWS' mean?
Does anyone have an idea about the real difference between a SSD and  a 'powerfull SSD' ?

Finally, when choosing a second harddrive, I'd like to pick one of the following two:

Extra 1 TB 2,5 inch SATA-harddisk(7.200 rpm)
Extra 2 TB SATA HDD (5.400 rpm),MPWS

They're about the same price, and I'm leaning towards the larger 5400 rpm drive. But how is the performance difference between those two? Can I find a comparison, or at least some info on f.e. IOPS of these disks somewhere?

Thanks,

Hello group,

I have an Inspiron 1559. I'm mystified by the little icon on the right-hand control key. It looks like a little square with three parallel lines inside it. Can somebody tell me what this does?

Thanx,

Ron

Wireless speed fluctuates

I have "Europe Dell Wireless 802.11g/n + Bluetooth v3.0+H S Card". I have reinstalled Windows 10 on my new Hard disk drive and I can see the wireless driver is "Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter". The driver version is 6.30.223.256.

I can see that my wireless speed varies from 30 MBPS to 1 MBPS. I have got my work laptop IBM Lenovo and when I check the wireless speed there, it is consistently at 48-50 MBPS. I have BT HUB4 smart wireless router which automatically uses best channel and I can see it is presently channel 1.

It seems to me the problem with either wireless card or wireless driver. On my old HDD I had Dell Wireless driver and I had exactly same problem. So it looks that the wireless card is not up to the job.

I have Dell Inspiron 15 N5050 laptop which is out of warranty.

If you know any idea which can resolve the fluctuation of the wifi speed please let me know.

Thanks for looking at it.

Regards

Rakesh

I'm attempting to restore my Inspiron N4010, windows 7 back to factory settings so that my son can use it. I follow the instructions and bring up the advanced boot menu and select repair; then the laptop starts up as normal. No changes. I've tried this several times with the same result. I haven't found anything online to help. What can I do. Help, please?

XPS 13 9350, "plugged in, not charging"

New machine, first time I started it up I got this warning message:

Product Name: XPS 13 9350
System BIOS 1.0.0,
Service Tag: xxxxxxx
ePSA: Build 4302.10 UEFI ROM
Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.
Note: This warning can be disabled in BIOS setup.

I didn't worry about it for a couple of days, but when I plugged in the power adapter the battery status said "48% battery level (plugged in, not charging)".

In the BIOS Settings under General, Battery Information, it showed "AC Adapter = Unknown" under System Logs, BIOS Events, it showed: date/time "Alert! Unknown AC power adapter, may affect performance."

I clicked the "Diagnostics" button on the startup Alert page and the Dell SupportAssist report under "Battery and AC Adapter" shows "AC adapter Current: 1 watt adapter, High: n/a, Low:n/a".

The little blue light on the adapter's plug is lit up.

Many other folks have run into similar problems with Dell laptops, but there only appear to be so-so workarounds and very few solutions. I have a very short time period in which to return the machine, and I'm not at all a hardware guy, so I'm not opening it up.

Any solutions/fast suggestions?

Thanks,
Chris

Dell XPS 9550 - Black screen + buzzing noise?

$

I bought my 9550 (i5/4k/256gb/8gb) on Feb 6 from the Microsoft Store. It suffered from some black screen issues, even after updating everything fully, BIOS, Intel/Nvidia drivers etc.

The past week, a new development has occurred. The laptop goes to black screen and a loud buzzing noise emits from the speakers. It's not the usual coil whine but a really loud buzzing sound. This happened once when I was watching a short video on Facebook, and again when I was watching a video on Youtube, both times using the laptop's speakers. It has crashed to a black screen before while watching YT but without the buzzing noise (I was using headphones), this is new.  I have checked that everything has been updated, and it has, yet this is happening.

I'm past my return date, and surely all the force shut-downs I have to do because of the black screen can't be good for the laptop. I hate that I can't even watch a video without fear of my laptop black screening and making me force reboot. Why should I have anxiety over using something I just bought and paid so much for! Really frustrating laptop. Just another problem on top of all the others it has had.

Unable to update Dell Drivers in XPS13 with Ubuntu

$

I have received today my brand new XPS13 shipped with Ubuntu

I am unable to update the Dell Drivers via the Software Updater. I consistently get the message "Requires installation of untrusted packages"

It seems to also prevent me from updating some of the additional software via apt-get but that is still under investigation.

Do you have any suggestion on how I can make sure that the Software Updater can digest the Dell Driver package?

Not sure if it is related, but when completing the installation of the laptop, I got the message "installer crashed (on dell-desktop). After that, the initial configuration was stopped, the system restarted and it seems to be working...

Thanks for any suggestion,

Miguel

XPS 13 9343 Windows 10 won't connect to a specific wifi router

$

My XPS 13 9343 connects to wifi networks with no problem but struggles to connect to one specific sky router. It used to connect to it with no issues and the other day it decided it wouldn't. It can see the router but shows a very low wifi signal and then says It can't connect to this network. Then after about 30min it will connect itself and stay connected for maybe an hour and then disconnect and refuse to connect again for at least 30min maybe longer. Resetting the laptop, wireless adapter or router has no effect.

No other devices connected to the router have any problem such as iphones, ipads and other laptops. I have also reset to default settings on the router.

My Dell is windows 10 with all updates installed and wireless adapter was last updated Dec 15 so doesn't seem to be associated with this issue as this problem has only started the last couple of weeks. I can't make any sense of it as nothing seems to have changed with the router or laptop since the problem started or right before, I can't even see any recent laptop updates. Does anyone know what it might be, I believe it to be the laptop rather than router and have had historical problems with this laptop and its wifi refusing to connect since I updated to windows 10 but it has usually been with public wifi connections rather than home connections.

My adapter is a Broadcom 802.11 version 7.35.333.0

Thanks

Pictures and Apps Went Missing-Please Help

Good morning. I have a Dell Inspiron 15. It is only about 6 month old. I dont use it daily, so this week when I logged on it did its typically installing updates. I have windows 10 installed.

Since that time my pictures appear to be missing.

I am not able to "Personalize" my desktop. I get this message: "This file does not have a file associated with it. If one is already installed create an association in the default programs control panel"

Also, I used to be able to flip from the "Desktop" to the app screen. There is no more app screen.

I tried a system restore last night, it did not work.

Any idea what happened and how I can fix?

Thank you!

Latitude D600 - Service Tag - booting Question

$

The USB ports on my D600 died - don't know why - but decided to get another motherboard. So I found one on eBay from an outfit called red_planet_motherboards. The board is supposed to be manufacturer refurbished. However, when I installed it in my laptop, I get a "No bootable devices" error, regardless of what hard drive or bootable CD I put into it. In looking at the BIOS settings, I find that there is no service tag or asset tag information entered. My question is: Does not having a service tag keep the computer from booting?

Thank you!

Dell XPS 15 Questions HELP!

Hello!

So i am currently looking into buying the Dell XPS 15 laptop, but before i do, i was hoping i could add the RAM directly with Dell and add a 1TB HDD since it comes only with a 256gb SSD..

There seems to be no custom options available, i know that in the past i was able to Upgrade those features. The laptop can handle up to 32GB but it comes only with 8GB ram, i was hoping i could add another 8GB to boost it up to 16GB. I know i can do that after the purchase, but i am not so good working with hardware and i've read its a complicated job to do so on this model.

As for the HDD, is it easy to add a 1TB HDD and still keep my 256GB SSD?

This is the laptop i am looking at:

Dell 7720 Intel rapid start after ssd upgrade

Hey guys, I had previously changed my Sata options in the Bios to AHCI so I that I could install windows on my 32Gb Msata drive. I used this setup for a good year or so but now I just purchased and installed a SSD for my system. I've reinstalled windows and upgraded it to windows 10 but after installing the Intel Rapid Start desktop app, I noticed it doesn't give me any options for acceleration using my 32Gb mSata drive.

When I go back to my Bios to change my Sata options back to Intel Smart Response Technology, I keep getting the blue screen saying my pc will restart an basically I cant get anywhere like that. I'm only able to boot into windows with my Sata options set to AHCI however I still want to use my 32Gb msata for cache purposes and to accelerate my ssytem.

Any help would be appreciated in helping me re-enable it
