Alienware 17 GPU Fan Not Working ePSA Error 2000-0511

I recently discovered my GPU fan stopped working and does not spin at all. When I look in MSI afterburner or HWiNFO it says the fan is at 100% but it is not moving at all. I tried flashing latest BIOS and am now on version A14 but still no go.

I then ordered a brand new fan and replaced the old fan and yet it is still now working. I ran ePSA diagnostics with the new fan and am getting the following error.

Error Code 2000-0511

Validation 130354

Msg: Fan - The [Unknown Fan] fan failed to respond correctly.

I have tried reflashing the BIOs to A14 after installing the new fan and it still does not work.

Please let me know what the next troubleshooting steps are.

Thank you!

xps13 win10 slow and stuttering ouse movement problem

I bought a XPS13 back in June 2015a and am not happy with it at all. There seems to be a constant lag/stutter. Have been through this with Dell support a couple of times but they don't seem to be able to assist.

So I am thinking of doing a clean install of Win7, currently using Win10 upgraded from Win8. Win8 came with the purchase.

I am wanting advice on a couple of things:
1. Will I be able to install a new Win7 without any of the Dell stuff?
2. After installing Win7. Can I just go to Dell's website and download all the firmwares for this particular model?
3. I also bought MS Office 2013 with the purchase of the laptop. It is an OEM license. Can I install Office again and use the license?

Hope to hear back. Thanks!

Retrieve COA via Service Tag

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a used Dell laptop. It says that there is no OS and no COA...

I don't know if they are aware that there should be a recovery partition or that the COA is supposed to be located (on this model, since I have another one identical) under the battery...

BUT, in the case that they really don't have the recovery partition and the COA under the battery, is it possible to get it (or another one) via the Service Tag/Express Service Code?

Thank you.

Venue 11 Pro 7130, printer offline

I have a Dell Venue 11 Pro 7130, connected to an HP Deskjet 1050. Suddenly, the printer is listed as 'offline' and I can't change it, even if disconnecting and reconnecting the printer, turning printer on/off, and so on. The Dell does not recognize the printer as connected, so I can not even reinstall the printer driver. It is definitely the Dell Venue that is the issue, as I can print if I connect the printer to another computer via the same USB cable. The only change in the Dell Venue that I can think of is a recent BIOS upgrade.

XPS 12 2in1 USB 3 dock Video disappears periodically

This XPS (DELL XPS 12 2 in 1 Ultra touch) was recently upgraded to Windows 10 (from 8). After that I purchased a USB 3 Docking Station (HDMI and DVI, few USB ports) that uses the DisplayLink drivers. I have connected two identical ViewSonic monitors one using HDMI and the other DVI.

Upon first boot both display fine. after few minutes (sometime immediately) the two monitors go blank while the other USB devices continue to operate normally. The display might comeback but in not all the cases. I disconnect the power to the USB docking station and reconnect for the monitors to display anything.  This happens all day. Sometimes it gets stable.

For testing, I have connected another Laptop Vostro V131 to the docking station today. The displays are functioning 100% with no hiccups.

Any help?

Hard Drive 0 Error Code 0142 - Dell XPS

I have been having problems with my computer booting up - screen flickers every 10-15 seconds and the icons on the bottom task bar do not appear and I also cannot open any files (but I can click on them), nor can I access the windows button or key.

I ran the f12 diagnostics on bootup the other day and got  Hard Drive 0 Error Code 0142..which means the self test failed if I am correct...

any options to salvage the laptop?

Thanks

Dell Latitude 3440 find part rattling inside

Hello I use Dell Latitude 3440 near two year. Recently I start to hear strange sound then taking my notebook like something moving inside. Today I open access panel and found two small parts inside. These were parts connecting to the metal foil on access panel.

Is it critical to remove this parts without replacing?

SOLVED - Overheating issue

Dell Latitude 6410 here, my sister's laptop.  Was overheating and shutting down, so I purchased a new fan assembly from eBay.

Swapped the fan assembly and had the same issue - system shuts off within a few minutes.

Removed the assembly and cleaned all the old dried up thermal paste on both the CPU (left side) and the GPU (middle area) and replaced it with new Arctic Silver paste.  This helped and the laptop would continue running now for about 15 minutes before overheating and shutting down again.

However, when replacing the assembly I noticed how the middle GPU heatsink seemed rather high.  Was able to verify it wasn't seating well by reviewing the new thermal paste mark and also by being able to push further down on the middle area after the assembly was already screwed down.

This is an issue of poor engineering.  The GPU is overheating because the middle heatsink isn't pressing down hard enough on it to transfer its heat.

The solution I came up with was to use a long nail and anchor it under the plastic area above and to the left of the GPU, go over the GPU heatsink assembly and then bend it down, forcing the heatsink down on the GPU hard and then finally replacing the bottom cover of the laptop to keep the nail in place.

Although you may be able to come up with a more elegant solution, this worked for me and the laptop runs perfectly now with no more overheating issues or CPU stepdowns or noisy fan.

Revision to above solution

My above solution works with the Dell E6410.  I just verified that the E6400 isn't the same design layout, although quite similar.

On the 6420, the fan assembly with dual heatsinks is straight and not U-shaped, so the middle area heatsink stands over the GPU and can be forced down on it.  I don't know if there is a similar issue with the E6400.

Adding 2nd M.2 SSD to Precision 7510

I just purchased a Precision 7510 laptop.  I ordered it with the following primary drive and no secondary drive:

  • 400-AILW 256GB M.2 PCIe High Performance Solid State Drive, MPWS

I'd like to add a second M.2 NVMe drive (perhaps a Samsung 950 Pro) in the 2.5" drive slot.  When ordering the laptop, it was an option to get a high performance M.2 NVMe drive with "Interposer". Does anybody know the part number for this "Interposer"? Are there any other parts that I'll need to make this work?

Thanks!
