Inspiron 15 7000 Blue Screen when using 3d applications

Hi,

I just bought a refurbished inspiron 15 7000 and I am having trouble with 3D based apps. I bought the laptop for use with Solidworks but I keep getting BSOD after using Solidworks for just a few minutes. The system has been fine when running office programs etc so I installed 3DMark to run some benchmarks and stress the system. After a few minutes of tests I get a BSOD. I'm guessing there may be an issue with the graphics or memory. I have added more memory to double it to 16gb but this has had no positive effect.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

XPS 15 stuck in an installation loop

Hey everyone I really think I messed up here.

So I got that Dell black screen bug where the screen goes black after startup supposedly because of Nvdia/Intel graphics cards.

Tried a couple of solutions and nothing worked so I booted into the troubleshoot screen and figured a fresh install would do the job and this time I wouldn't update BIOS (that's what led to all of this).

Anyways, the black screen froze the installation process and now everytime I restart the laptop it attempts to resume with the "Press OK to restart the laptop and resume Windows installation". Essentially stuck in a bootloop with no idea what the *** to do, I literally opened this laptop today.

Anyone have any kind of solution here?

Hello All,

I am trying trying to upgrade my HD to SSD, and I got the following SSD, SATA III

When I try to install Windows on the laptop, it does not recognise the SSD.

Is the above SSD compatible with Dell Latitude 6520? If yes, what do I need to do for ir to recognise the SSD.

Thanks in Advance.

Sumit

Normal for AC adapter brick to be very hot?

The AC adapter brick for my Inspiron 7559, which I just bought two months ago, gets very hot during charging to touch (to the point where it would not be comfortable to hold in my hand).  Is this normal or expected behavior?  Could this be a symptom of a problem or even a fire hazard?  Or is this normal for these laptops?

SSD in non Dell machine

I have a dell laptop with a dead screen.  I decided to not replace it and reuse the SSD in my home (non Dell) computer.  Im finding this computer and another non dell laptop do not detect the SSD taken from my dell laptop, not even in the BIOS.

However I put it in my dell laptop (using a monitor) and it works fine.  Are the SSD drive used in Dell hard coded to only work with Dell machines maybe?

Usb ports giving power but not detecting devices at all.

I have dell inspiron 5520 and previously windows 7 was installed on it and now I have clean installed windows 10, after installation i noticed that usb ports are no longer detecting devices. In the device manager i can see exclamation mark on USB xHCI compliant host controller with error code 10. It must be some driver problem. I tried every solution on the internet related to this problem but all in vain. Please help its really frustrating and disappointing.

I have tried following solutions so far:

 • uninstall driver and restart
 • installed windows updates
 • downloaded drivers from vendor's site
 • updated bios

A friend of mine has same laptop with windows 10 and his ports are working.

Following new hard drive install problem

Hello,

I had a new hard drive installed on my laptop. Since I have recovery discs and a complete back up on an external hard drive, I opted not to pay the additional $100.00 to reinstall everything. I fired up the laptop with great anticipation. Popped in the first recovery disc, everything working great so far. When complete, I ejected disc #1 & inserted disc #2 as instructed. Icon kept spinning & message never changed from "instert disc 2". I waited about 10 minutes, no change. Can't feel or hear the disc running. Pressed eject, nothing, pressed eject a few more times, nothing. Powered it off & on. Now my screen is back to square one and disc 2 remains in the drive, unable to eject. It is NOT the tray style where I could use a clip to eject. Please help. Thank you.

XPS 13 - Intel Iris 540 the same performance as Intel HD 620?

I had purchased a Dell XPS 13 9350 with the Intel Iris 540 in March 2016 (core i7, 256GB, 8GB DDR3). After a few rounds of online technical support, it was sent to the repair depot twice to fix a static/buzzing noise made by the speakers.  On the second trip to the repair depot the laptop was determined to be "beyond economical repair" due to a motherboard issue.

Dell notified me that I would be getting a new XPS 13.  When I asked whether or not I would receive an Intel Iris 540 in the laptop, the systems exchange analyst stated:

"We have checked and found that Intel IRIS 540 is equal to intel HD graphics which we are offering. Both deliver same performance."

On the Dell website, it's stated that the New XPS 13s would have the Intel HD Graphics 620 chip. I went online and found a few graphics comparison websites that state the IRIS 540 is better performing chip but I'm unsure.

Can someone on the forum confirm the system exchange analysts claim that the performance is equal and give advice whether or not I should accept the exchange?

I appreciate any and all assistance.

*edit: I apologize, I read the forum rules and took out the Dell employee's name. Also, clarified system in title.

"Dell laptop hinge policy" doesn't make any sense

From the "Dell laptop hinge policy" announcement at the top of this post:
Because a hinge is under the "Normal wear and tear" policy, it is not covered by the default limited hardware warranty. It would be covered under the additional "Accidental Damage/Complete Care" warranty. If you did not purchase the additional "Accidental Damage/Complete Care" warranty, you will need to pay for the repair using our "Support Service for Extended Warranties" offering.
Further down, we have:
Q: I bought the Accidental Damage/Complete Care warranty. Dell should fix these hinges!
A: Hinges are not covered in the Accidental Damage/Complete Care warranty
Am I crazy?

Very curious keyboard issues.

A while back, the keyboard on my N7110 started going nuts. I had replaced the original with a backlit one from China years ago. I removed the keyboard and it had the distinct smell of coffee. Turns out my wife spilled some on it a while back, and never said anything.

I attempted to clean the keyboard as best I could, but got no results. The same characters, "ruweq", would spam as soon as I started to close the hinge on the ribbon. Then a "43poi" might or might not show up, followed by a steady stream of "i"s.

Anyway, I ordered the same keyboard, and everything was fine. New keyboard worked for a few weeks, then suddenly, the same issues. I grilled the wife, but she swears she hasn't spilled anything. It seems the problem is now with the board. I tried cleaning the connection with alcohol, but no dice.

Here's where things start getting interesting.

For no reason at all, I dug up the old, coffee spilled keyboard and plugged it in. It worked! ...Well, it worked for about 5 minutes, then it started going nuts again. Plugged in the new one, same deal. So now, neither of them work.

Any advice on how I might fix this? Any idea why the old one would suddenly work for a few minutes? Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thanks!

7275 win10 64bit Power Manager (DCPM) won't install

I have a latitude 7275 with Windows 10 64bit.  I just downloaded DCPM from the support page for my machine and it will not install.  The file I downloaded is System-Utilities_Application_4T7MN_WN32_2.1.1.  The support page shows this is the correct version for my machine and OS.  The install instructions says the this file will install on 32 bit or 64 bit OS.  However, when I run the file, I get the error that the installation package is not compatible with 64bit OS.

I cannot seem to locate a 64bit installation file.  How do I get this to install?

I was given a inspiron 4000 laptop and it won't turn on. It will charge the battery but if you push the power button nothing happens. I took it all apart to make sure the motherboard wasn't damage any where and it looks find. I tried the cpu in a other laptop and it works and the memory works too. So a ruled those out. It won't turn on with battery or with it being plug in. The service tag is 7GNTK01. All i know is the guy i got it from told me he was typing on it and it shut off and wouldn't turn back on. Hope someone can help i am lost now.

Can I delete the OEM and Recovery Hard Drive Partitions?

$

Hi,

I have an AlienWare 17 R2 laptop that I bought from Dell about 1-1/2 years ago.  It came with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed.  The hard drive has the following three primary partitions:

 1. OEM Partition 39 MB
 2. Recovery 10.20 GB
 3. OS (C:) - 921.28 GB <= Windows 7 is installed on this partition

I would like to setup this computer for a multi-boot configuration that would give me the following OS choices:

 1. Windows 7 (my existing installation)
 2. Windows 10
 3. Windows XP

I plan on using BootIT Bare Metal by Terabyte unlimited to help me create my multi-boot configuration.  I would like for my each of my three Windows versions to be on a dedicated primary partition, and I would like to keep my number of primary partitions to the typical PC/Windows limit of four.  To make this possible, I would like to delete the OEM partition and the Recovery Partition.

Can anyone tell me, considering I have a standard "Dell" or "Alienware" configuration, can I simply delete these partitions with no adverse side effects?  Or will deleting either of these break my Windows 7 installation?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

How to access the boot order menu of the Inspiron 13-5368

I have a Linux install on a USB stick and would like to test it on my Inspiron 13-5368. I really don't want to mess around with changing any UEFI settings. I just want to change the boot order for a one time boot up. I know F2 gets me into the system setup. Would F12 or some other key present me with the boot order?

It shouldn't be this difficult!!!

I just purchased the 3650 with the hopes of cloning existing hard drive and replacing with a SSD.  Accomplished cloning, took out old hard drive, installed new SSD...won't boot!  Have changed settings in boot options as described in several posts to no avail.  NO BOOTABLE DISC FOUND.  Put the old hard drive back in and it boots perfectly.  Followed instructions for cloning to a T.  Help!

Dell xps 13 (2016) stuck in battery saving mode

$

Using new laptop last night an the battery went below 20% and battery saving mode was triggered.  Threw it on the charger and continued using it as normal. This morning I went to use it on its fully charged battery and saw it was in power saving mode still.  Try to turn battery saving mode off through the battery icon on the start bar but it will not turn off. Going into battery saving mode settings and unchecking the check box that says stay in battery saving mode until next charge also will not take it out of battery saving mode. Tried restarting laptop while on battery, while plugged in, charging to 100% and restarting both on battery and plugged in, no change.  All drivers including bios have been updated a few days ago.  Any suggestions?

Thank you
