not booting after bios changes

I made a few changes to the bios, including setting a bios and admin password.  now when I boot into windows 10, after entering my password, it goes straight to dell support assist.  this happens every time on boot up, and now I can't boot into windows.  


Inspiron 17R 7720 SE Glitchy Screen

My Inspiron 17R 7720 SE has a display screen issue. From time to time there will be a horizontal grey bar around 1/4" tall that will roll from the bottom up to the top of the display and then disappear. At other times the display will cut to a grey/white blank screen that kind of "vibrates" between medium grey/white and light  grey/white. This glitch may happen randomly or if the computer is moved or jarred. If I shut the lid or press the power button to hibernate the computer for a minute or so and then wake the computer up, it will resume with a proper display exactly where I left off. It may run a couple of minutes and repeat the glitch, or it may run the rest of the day until I shut it down without a problem.

I ran the F12 startup diagnostic routine which indicated the display adapter was performing normally, so I'm guessing/hoping this glitch is a display screen issue and not a display adapter issue. Has anyone else encountered this issue and identified the problem? Are there any more diagnostics I can run to isolate if this is a display screen or display adapter issue?

Dell XPS 13 9350 and Thunderbolt issues

So, my ultimate goal is to connect a Firewire 800 device (medical instrument) via thunderbolt. I got my hands on two Apple thunderbolt adapters, first a TB 3 to TB 2, and then a TB 2 to Firewire 800.

When I connect the TB 3 to TB 2, Windows says "Try improving the USB connection" and it links me to this page. Opening the thunderbolt software shows no connected devices. I have the latest drivers that I am aware of, software package version 16.1.47.275. I have BIOS version 1.4.10. I have disabled the thunderbolt security in BIOS and enabled the boot related thunderbolt options.

What else can I do? Thankful for help!

Max Memory in Latitude E5470 with I5 6440HQ & Intel Graphics 530

I have a Latitude E5470 with I5 6440HQ and Intel Graphics 530.

I currently have 1 8GB memory module and an empty module. What is the maximum memory this system can take in each slot?

Also, does anyone have experience in replacing the HDD with a SSD? If so, can you please recommend what kind of SSD I should go for.

A strange problem

My Latitude 7350 shows the battery percentage as:

Battery 1 39% and in use

Battery 2 100%

And the overall percentage shows 90%. How can this be possible? Since Battery 1 (under the keyboard) has only 39% left, the overall percentage should be much lower than 90%. Something is wrong. Can someone help me? Thank you.

Talk about confusing. I looked at the latest BIOS update documentation and this is what it says:

 Title: Dell XPS 15 9550 1.2.15 A16 System BIOS

 Subtitle: XPS 15 9550 1.2.18 BIOS

 Version: 01.02.17, 01.02.17

 File Name: XPS_9550_1.2.18.exe

I assume everything should say 18?

The installation took forever but it worked fine ... but ... the reboot fails. I have a black screen. Probably an UEFI issue! No boot menu! No Dell Logo! I am lost...


Right touchpad button does not trigger context menus in windows 10

Hi All, just received an Inspiron 15 5000 series model 5567 with TouchScreen and Windows 10 pro. I have found that when the right button on the touchpad is used no context menu is displayed regardless of what application or desktop is active. The driver installed is a generic PS2 driver and not the synaptics driver I am use to seeing with Dell. It only allows definition of what button is the primary button. You cannot change anything such as what button does what or the touch areas or sensitivity.

But as I say my biggest concern is that the context menus will not display with the right touchpad button. The right button behaves the same as the left button on the touchpad.

This is a brand new dell and out of the box the touchpad functionality is questionable. Does anyone have a solution for this? Is a synaptics driver/software missing?

All help gratefully accepted.

My laptop beeps 8 times and won't start.

Hi! My laptop (dell 7447) beeps 8 times on start up and shows nothing on the screen.Pressimg function key 12 (F12) showed nothing too.I tried that many times thought.But when i pressed "D" with the power button while starting the laptop some series of color came on the screen But then again the screen went blank and the beeping re-started.Help please.

I have a Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop. Had Win 8.1, and has been upgraded to Win 10. The hard drive went bad, so replaced it and installed Win 10. My issue is, and I have found others here having the same issue, is finding the correct driver for what I have read is the Hard drive motion sensor. In device Manager I have the unknown device with the exclamation point in yellow showing. This driver is not on my laptops driver page. This is the value of the device in details under device manager...

Sleep stops working after BIOS update 1.2.18 for XPS 15 9550

Another new BIOS release for this buggy laptop.

The good news: after several months, the 'brightness flickering' issue introduced in an earlier BIOS update now finally seems fixed.

The bad news: a new bug seemingly snuck into this new release. Since the BIOS update, when closing the lid, my laptop crashes. Reopening the laptop restarts the laptop entirely.

After further investigation I noticed it not only happens when closing the lid. Merely selecting 'sleep' from the shut down menu will trigger the same behavior.

Possibly related to one of the fixes in this BIOS release since it states "Fix Lid close can't switch display issue." With Dell's utter lack of regression testing (or mere testing?) I wouldn't be surprised this fix created new previously unreported problems.

Latitude 7350 battery life

Hi, 

I bought a Latitude 7350 about one month ago, and its battery life is been 5h average. Is that normal? On Dell's website says that we can get up to 10.5 hours of battery life when you connect to the optional 2-cell battery in the keyboard base.

Dell Inspiron 7537 no longer charging- motherboard failure

I will try again with posting this. I dont see anything against terms or rules in my post. I would like some advice and opinions on this issue and if my grievance is reasonable?

I purchased this laptop in early December 2014. I would like to add that this laptop cost me close to £1000 when purchased. Purchase was direct from Dell.

2 days ago, the laptop developed a fault where it would not longer accept any charge from the charger.

No notifications or messages on the laptop informing me of any faults with battery or charger.

I use this laptop for work and i am self employed- this is a very important tool for me and my business will come to a halt without it.

I contacted customer support and through diagnosis they inform me that the motherboard needs replacing. The charger when plugged in, has the green light come on but when plugged into the laptop the green light on the charger flickers and turns off. I am told the motherboard is sending a current back and causing the fault, preventing the laptop from charging.

Dell are asking me for £600-700 which is nearly the cost of the laptop new. An engineer will come out and replace the board.

This is completely and wholly unacceptable. The laptop is just over 2 years this month- It is a £1000 machine and was a high spec, premium multimedia laptop from the 7000 series which is supposed to built and made to a high level.

This is not an entry level budget laptop. I would expect a battery or charger to fail after this period but a major component such as a motherboard to fail is completely unacceptable.

I am in the UK and the Consumer Rights Act dictates that the item is fit for purpose- this includes life expectancy, and finish taking into account the price paid and the type and age of the laptop. For example, a cheap second-hand Netbook might be expected to have a shorter life expectancy than a brand new £1500 Apple MacBook.

A £1000 premium laptop should last a minimum of 3 years without major components failing. This is general consensus for high end tech/equipment. It is not reasonable to fail at 2 years and the most important/expensive part on the laptop at that. .

I am now without a working laptop which i rely on for work. I cannot get through to any customer service team or escalation team in the UK or abroad (where all calls are going) who can deal with this and i am furious about receiving this sort of service from a large company like Dell.

My rights are not being respected. Dell is defaulting on the Consumer rights act and i will have no choice to take this matter further legally unless i get some for of assistance and a reasonable resolution. In the UK we have some good protection in regards to this (legally) but i dont wish to pursue this path and would rather Dell provide some reasonable assistance and acknowledge the issue. 

Very simply, this part should not have failed in the short time frame it has failed in. There is clearly an underlying manufacturing or assembly issue.


factory reset / wipe clean for disposal

I would like to restore factory setting or wipe the laptop completely clean before getting rid of it.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with Windows XP.

I have tried F* as it is starting to get to the Advanced Boot Options.  But then there is no "Repair Your Computer" as suggested by other online info.  Lots of choices, but not that one.

I have tried Ctrl-F11, many,, many times and in several different ways and it does nothing.

Anyone  know how to do this?

Can't resize HDD partition in Dell inspiron 15R 7520

I am facing a serious trouble in my Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 Core i7 with 1 TB HDD and 32GB mSATA SSD.


The problem is when I wanted to increase one of my partitions (D) on account of (E) partition by Hiren's boot CD using (acronis disk director). 

I found after increasing process and safety boot that the space of (D) partition is still as it was , also the space of (E) partition. But when I restart my labtop and boot from Hiren's boot CD then navigate to (acronis disk director) it tells me that (D) partition is already increased and (E) partition is already decreased.


How come?

Partition Error Trying to Reinstall Windows 10 on New Hard Drive

After a year owning my laptop, less than 10 hours of use in all that time, went to update to latest version, laptop dies, Dell says I need a new hard drive. I purchase it, Dell then says you need to install Windows 10 again. Purchased a USB drive and download operating system.

 All goes fine during recovery until I get this error: Words "Partition Table" with red X, followed by “We are unable to repair your computer. We will now back up your data and then reinstall your Operating System."

That leads to another error saying my data wasn’t back up, even when I click “skip” this option as the hard drive is new, there is no data. It then says to remove USB key and “we will install a fresh copy of your Operating System,” which never happens.

 This pattern is repeated over and over. It also appears the laptop is not picking up my USB drive because when I click to back up the data it says no USB is attached. I tried another USB and it then said there was data to back up. Maybe it recognized this USB drive because it was empty, don't know.

Long story short, I could really use some help finding out what the trouble is. Paying Dell another $200 for three days of service is just not working for me. At this point fixing this laptop will cost almost as much as the laptop itself.

Inspiron 15R 5520 Boot up Delay

Hello,

I was having one problem with my Inspiron 15R 5520 but now i have two problem occuring simultaneously and there is no solution for any of them yet.

1- The first problem:

When i power-up my laptop, there is a delay of 10 second ( and a black screen ) between the power-up lights turn on and the DELL BIOS Logo. After that, Windows boots normally. But, when i restart my laptop all the problems disappear and when i turn it off and turn it back on after some time, the two problems occur again and that's a strange thing for me.

I tried the following solutions but none of them worked for me :

1- Reflashing BIOS with the latest BIOS file from DELL Driver's page.

2- Reinstalling latest Chipset drivers.

3- Resetting BIOS.

4- Doing a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit and installing all drivers in the correct order.

Please help me to resolve these two problems and thanks in advance.

What is the fastest CPU I can install in my Inspiron 1520. Will I need to upgrade the bios to accommodate it? It is currently running Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual  CPU  T2370  @ 1.73GHz.
