I have in my possession a late 2010 XPS 15, bought approximately 4 years ago. Something happened to the CPU (Intel Core i5-480M) in such a way that the integrated graphics 'bit' of the CPU failed. Installing its driver causes the whole system to freeze a few seconds after booting, and forgoing it does not allow the GPU (GeForce GT 420M) to 'work' (i.e. after installing the nVidia driver, nVidia control panel says that the card is not connected to any screens).
What I would like to do is find a compatible replacement for the CPU. I have disassembled the laptop and the CPU is sitting in a Foxconn PGA989 socket. The motherboard is a Hannstar J MV-4 94V-0 1051. Any help is appreciated.
