I currently have an Inspiron 7720 that I purchased in 2013. It has 8gb of ram, and while that's fine and dandy for most of my usage, I find it a limiting factor when editing particularly large videos.
I was just wondering if it might be possible to put 12gb, or maybe 16gb into this machine. I've upgraded multiple computers (desktops and laptops alike) before, and I know the precautions. I just don't know if my mainboard can handle the extra RAM amount.
On that same note, can I remove one 4gb stick and put an 8gb stick in it's place to get 12gb, or do I need a matched set of 8's to get 16 and a stable system?
EDIT: After a bit of searching, I've seen that while it can work with 16, it's largely up to luck and that it may be unstable. Truth?
