Im currently posting this on a Inspiron 17R 7720 base which has been/is a faithful workhouse that has served me proudly for the last couple of years over multiple continents when my 5 year old XPS M1730 passed on. The laptop is still a *** good laptop but I'm starting to find the 650M just isn't cutting it anymore and as there's no way to upgrade the GFX card I'm casually looking at a replacement.
So I'm extremely surprised to find the NEW inspiron models benchmark both CPU and GFX wise at much lower than this much older model (2012?). I m mistaken with the evidence below.
www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
The 3630QM comes out with 7662 compared to the 5500U with 3981
The 650M comes out with 1256 compared to the 964 for the 845M
So my main question is why have you castrated this product line so badly that 3 years later (remember computers get more powerful and cheaper year on year) that I'm paying more money for almost half the product?
After my experience with the XPS M1730 I don't think I'll be going Alienware 17 it's just not worth the money and having to move almost constantly for work was a back breaking experience 8 years ago (the laptop was 12 pounds and the power supply a breezeblock). Does Dell have another alternative for a backpacking serious gamer that's £1000 or less and not a monster in dimensions and weight or am I taking my business elsewhere?
