Quick update. I plugged in a CRT monitor to the laptop. It works fine. The problem is in the LCD display. I've read reports online that suggest that the issue is with something called an "inverter" that is part of the display. If anyone doesn't have any other ideas as to what may be wrong, then I am just going to order an inverter replacement board.
