XPS Studio M1640 Motherboard Compatibility Y503R vs. Y505R

Hey guys, I've been trying to get a motherboard replacement for an old XPS 1640.  The current board is a Y505R, DA0RM3MBAD0.

There appear to be very few Y505R boards, but have found several Y503R, with model DA0RM3MBAD0.  I am getting conflicting feedback from sellers on the compatibility and differences between the two and have not been able to find out what is the real difference.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Alienware Graphic Amplifier

Hello everyone.

I've got a little problem or it might be normally, i don't know. but i'd like to make sure otherwise there's gonna be some bad things in the future.

So the problem is that whenever i start my laptop (Alienware 15 R2) connected to the AMP, it randomly sometimes begins to restart, or it might be even twice, and then the windows loads up. Sometimes it stucks in windows loading screen but after 1-2 restarts it begins to work properly. I've also paid attention that if i unplug the AMP and retart the laptop, is might still restart 1-2 times.

Also i would like to mention that whenever everything loads up it works well.

Is that okay or there's some problem?

Thank you for your help.

XPS 15 (9550) No bootable device found

Hello,

A couple of month ago I bought myself a beautiful laptop. One of the first things I did was remove Windows 10 and install Debian-testiing. I had some minor problems with Uefi so I went back to Legacy.

Last week I thought it was time to completely move to eufi because most linux distributions support it now.

All went fine, but booting is a problem (Just GRUB _ on the screen and no reaction on keyboard input). I do have a USB stick with PMagic and with that I am able to boot my own Debian on the SSD.

Now I think I have found at least one of my problems. Starting my laptop with F2 I can see what my boot settings are: onle UEFI and the first drive to boot from is my SSD. That looks okay, but when i click the view button I get a strange seond row with the specs of my USB stick.

The second row should be: BBS (HD, PM951 NVMe Samsung 512GB)

I can remove the faulty boot option and add a new one, but I cannot change the second row and I think thats causing my "No bootable device found"

Is there some way I can reconfigure the SSD so that the second row gets corrected?

I hope you can understand my dutch school english

Thanks in advance,

XPS 13 9360 red grub boot menu

I tried different versions of Ubuntu to see what works and what doesn't. The last time I installed Ubuntu I specified 'nvme0' as the drive to boot form, instead of 'nvme0n1'. That was a mistake. When it rebooted after the installation was finished I found myself staring at a red grub boot menu telling me:

GNU GRUB  version 2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3

*If you are seeing this menu, your installation has failed.
Choose from the following options for debugging purposes:

 Single user mode
Automated installation of Ubuntu 16.04 (Default)

When choosing 'Automated installation' it sort of re-installs, without giving me any option of configuring the installation. It ends up booting in the same red grub boot menu.

Choosing 'Single user mode' makes it do some stuff and then I see:

Welcome to rescue mode! After logging in, type...
Press Enter for maintenance
(or press Control-D to continue): _

I press Control-D and a version of Ubuntu launches.

I also tried inserting the dell recovery USB-stick I made and then launching it via the bios boot menu. But again I go straight to the red grub boot menu.

Logically thinking I'd say grub need to be removed from the nvme0 disk. I have no clue how to do that though. I don't even know what it is actually. You'd say 'nvme0n1p1' through 4 are the partitions and 'nvme0n1' is the disk. But what then is 'nvme0'?

Anyone an idea what I could try?

Using HP P2055d printer with Dell Latitude E5570

Received new laptop but can't get it to connect to old printer. I have limited computer knowledge. Error message says the device can't work properly with USB 3.0.  Is there a cable or something I can get so I can use this printer. Or perhaps some other work around?

New Dell Precision 7510 Lag

I am an Art Director and my work just purchased me a new Dell Precision 7510 with the specs below:

- 4K screen

- 32 GB DDR4 RAM

- Xeon E3-1505M

- Nvidia Quadro M2000M

- 512 SSD

My concern is that it seems like the system isn't running smooth. To me it seems like the system is having a hard time running the 4K screen? I'm experiencing a bunch of Windows UI lag and the system just seems glitchy at times. These problems are especially apparent within the Adobe Creative Suite. Are these known problems? Should I RMA?

Thank you!

OTHER DEVICES: VIDEO CONTROLLER PUNT

Recently my OptiPlex 755 with Windows 10 has started acting strangely. From either a fresh boot or return from "hibernate", it begins to boot with all green lights flashing but then stalls to a black screen, but with the green front lights still illuminated. If I hold the power button until it completely shuts down and repress to start, it boots normally. The only error I can find in the Device Manager is a punt in Other Devices for Video Controller with the following description:

Encountered the following problem on my new Inspiron 14 7000 (7437).

Device Manager is showing under Other Devices: PCI Device

Under the Event Tab, Information:

How do I fix this?

m3800 not charging if not being shutdown

Hi

I noted a strange behavior with my Dell m3800: if I use it on battery (let it discharge for a while, even for a few hours) and, while still running on battery, I attach the AC, then the battery indicators show fully charged and also the OS reports the fully charged state.

In order to make it effectively charge the battery I have to shut it down, unplug the AC and then plug it again.

Is it a known issue or something to do with the BIOS (which should be updated to the latest version)? Or is it some hidden setting in the BIOS?

thanks in advance

Lorenzo

Booting via liveusb they work fine.

I just registered a new dell 15 i5559 3333 SLV dell signature edition. I had not gotten even a chance to install any software. Dreadfully slow. Is this is a known issue. Should I just return it back or is there a simple remedy? Any thoughts is appreciated. 8 GB Ram.

Latitude E7470 - Speakers

My external speakers for my E7470 laptop do not output sound unless the green stereo cable is plugged directly into it.  When the audio cable is plugged into the port replicator, it simply won’t output sound... The sound goes through the laptop speakers instead.  The in the Sound settings, the speakers show to be playing but the audio goes through my laptop.  The audio output won’t switch from my laptop port to the port replicator.  Everything was fine before but now it's just not working. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

L502x Processor Upgrade

I have been working on upgrade my laptop to work with solidworks better and needed a bit of help.

Here are the laptop specs running windows 10

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz

16GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory (upgraded this)

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525m 1GB graphics

Upgraded to a SSD

What I would like to do is upgrade the two last things which are the graphics card (if even possible) buy getting a new board and the processor.

From what I have researched these processors will work in the same socket as my i5 but which one is better and will there be a big improvement over the i5 that i have??

en.community.dell.com/.../19476474

Lastly is it possible to upgrade the graphics card to the GT540m 2gb by installing a new motherboard? Will I gain much over the GT525??

thanks!
