I am experiencing the same right hinge issue with my 5558

I just spent nearly 2 hours today attempting to get my 5558 Inspiron repaired under warranty for a broken right hinge that also screwed up my WiFi. Who do I contact to get this issue covered and cost me 160 dollars?  This is amazing everyone with exactly the same problem on the right hinge, not the left even.

And then to be accused of abusing my machine, when it never actually moves from its location. The only thing I do is open and close the *** lid !  I always had a trust in Dell products and they're quality. Well that's now out the door.

I am an unhappy camper.

Issue updating BIOS from Dos using bootable USB

Hello All,

I have found myself in a tough situation - hoping someone can help!

I have an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 and my current BIOS version is A07.

I have tried upgrading to the newer versions (A10 or A11), however due to non-charging battery problems I cannot do it on Windows as battery power is below 10%.

Using the instructions provided to install for non-Windows users from DOS using a bootable usb, when I try to load the 7520A11.EXE all I get is "Test." and nothing happens. I also tried adding '/forceit' after the command but still no luck.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hi,


I purchased a Dell Precision 7710 laptop 2 months ago from Dell's website with the fingerprint touch sensor.  Afterwards, I installed Windows 10.

The laptop has been working fine until I installed the following update for ControlVault

Fingerprint issue

Hi All,

firstly, thank you for your time and effort

I have Latitude E5550 which come with Ubuntu system.

I changed my OS to Windows 7 Professional - Service Pack 1 - 64Bit. Manually and without a drivers CD, I downloaded all my drivers from Dell Support using my service tag

I used to have the finger print work normally, but recently I formatted my laptop and now I can't use the fingerprint anymore.

when the problem first appeared, I could see fingerprint under Biometric device but it was unavailable. at that time, I installed DDP (Dell Data Protection) and when I "enroll" fingerprint, it shows the device is there but it couldn't detect my finger. Also, when I tried to update the firmware, It said that I need to install Dell ControlPoint Security but I couldn't find it in Dell Support. After that, I uninstalled DDP and firmware and reinstalled them again from Dell website but the problem was that when I tried to run the installation wizard of firmware, it couldn't be completed (rolls back).

Today, I installed the firmware again from Dell website and it's installed but the finger print is not found by Biometric device or DDP console. when I run Control Vault, I receive error message that firmware needs to be updated and when I try to update it, another error message appears (anti hammering is enabled and maybe preventing firmware from updating).

current situation:

1- fingerprint not detected

2- when I install Control Vault drive, I cant use DDP

3- after reinstalling Control Vault, I can use DDP for passwords but not the fingerprint since device is not detected.

your help is highly appreciated since I did everything in my power to try solving my issue

1TB SSD upgrade in Latitude E7470

The order choices on this laptop list a 512MB M.2 SSD as the largest choice.  The tech specs also list 512GB as the max, but I wonder if that just reflects what Dell offers.  There are now 1TB versions on the market of the M.2, so would this work as an upgrade?

XPS 12 9Q33 Need to reset BIOS *ADMIN* password

We have two XPS12 9Q33 units that have the BIOS Admin password set, but no one left in the department knows the password. We've tried all the normal variants to no avail.

Yesterday I spoke with out of warranty support, and the gentleman was unable to help as from his documentation this computer has a Phoenix BIOS, while in reality all the units we have are AMI BIOS. We have 12 of these units, but only these two have the admin password set.

Does anyone know of a way to reset the BIOS ADMIN password? Not the system password, we have that, it's specifically the ADMIN password. Support yesterday was very frustrating in trying to get them to simply listen to what our problem was so I gave up on that and came here.

Google Chrome Windows 10

Hello,

So recently, I've been having some issues with Google Chrome on my Windows 10. It just doesn't load up so I had decided to uninstall it via control panel and then reinstall it.


Every time I attempt to install it now; it just gives me the downloading box without any updates for several hours and doesn't download.


So I'm not exactly sure on what to do now.

I tried to install 2 new RAM modules, but keep getting stuck in the restart loop. The new RAM is Kingston HyperX Impact 8GB kit (2 x 4GB modules) HX316LS9IBK2/8. I have upgraded BIOS to A16, but still not working.

Charging Inspiron 13 7000 via USB-C

From a reply by ejn63 I found out that I CAN charge my new Inspiron 13 7000 via the USB-C port, which happens to be a USB 3.0 connector (ejn63 said 'Yes, the USB-C can be used to charge the system.').

So before I burn the motherboard of the new laptop I have the following questions:

Question 1: Can I charge the laptop's battery connecting a standard USB charger for mobile phones (240V to 5V, 2A) via a USB Type A to USB Type C cable?

Question 2: Can I charge the laptop's battery connecting the same cable to a power bank 10,000 mAh, 5V 2A

Latitude E6440 - Intel I217 - Interrupts cause high cpu load

Hello,

I see permanent high cpu load caused by 'interrupts'  - about 20%. This is Windows 7. Deactivating the I217 NIC reduces that load to about 3%. Driver version is 12.12.50.7205.

What would you recommend to do?

Error code : 2000 - 0142 on diagnostic

Couple of month ago my laptop warrenty expired. Today I get disk repairing error on boot.

On diagnostic, Hard Drie 0 - DST Short test failed with error code 2000 - 0142 Validation : 129532.

Please suggest me how do I get replacement of this harddisk/Warrenty. As per my understanding samsung harddisk has 5yrs warrenty. So please help me on this.

Dell e6320 doesn't turn on using adapter or docking station

Hello,

The laptop works normally using battery , but neither the adapter nor the docking station is able to charge the battery.

I removed the battery and tried to power on using the adapter or the docking station, but it doesn't work. 

Switching between Fn  + F2 and Fn + F3 had no effect

I did the procedure of draining the static charge and also no difference.

One final observation, is when i press the power button, it lights on for a second and then it goes off immediately without booting.

Pan / Zoom / Tilt, other settings not working on Integrated Webcam - Dell Webcam Central after Windows 10 updates / Alienware M17x R4

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.


After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.


I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.


I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.

Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.

I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.

Inspiron N7110 Stuck at Logon Screen without the Password Field

Inspiron N7110  running Windows 10

Boot up the laptop and it gets stuck at the Login screen but no password field appears.  Instead I have the buffering circles rather than the input field for my password.  As a result, I cannot log on to my laptop.  Just started happening yesterday.  Can anyone help?

M4700 max speed msata SSD

I cannot seem to vind any information on the interface of the msata WWAN slot of my m4700. If possibble i would like to install a samsung 850 EVO msata but i do not know if this is compatible at max speed of sata600 or compatible at all.

Dell Inspiron Duo 1090 beeps 4 - how to fix?

The Inspiron Duo beeps 4 times then pauses and beeps another 4 times, when you turn it on. Also,  there is just a blank screen nothing pops on. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it?

XPS 9350 Freezing, Sound Issues

Hello, my XPS 9350 is having issues with notifications freezing on start up and sound not being recorded or played, as well as videos not starting. 

I had the same issue on a 9550 but disabling the NVIDIA backend on start up fixed my issue. 

The 9350s notifications freeze on start up, I have to restarted Windows Explorer several times.

Sound does not get picked up from the USB mic only on this laptop. Drivers have been updated uninstall, installed again same issue. 

Videos like on youtube are not able to play, it states an error has occurred. 

Also when hooking it up to the WD15 dock I believe is the name, the mouse and keyboard stop working after a while,  as well as the video does work on the monitor but breaks on the laptop. It shows black for maybe 70% of the screen while the whole desktop shows in the other 30%

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I cannot do a fresh install on this I would lose more than I would gain unfortunately even if I back up.
