First, MAKE THE RECOVERY FLASH DRIVE or the set of DVDs. Once you alter the partitioning scheme, the restore function will be destroyed.
Then you can delete the recovery partition and use that to create the partition you want - once you alter the partition scheme, the recovery partition will not work anyway.
