Inspiron 1720 (2.2); Ram = 3 Gb; Win7 Ultimate x64; run off AC with 8 year old APC UPS
8 years old and having problems for past few months:
boots into diags often so I ran thorough test; everything passed and it doesn't seem to boot into diags now. I've defragged and sfc'd, etc.
get a lot of lags/not responding; often have to click twice on Excel tabs to change them.
ran the WEI and received low scores on processor, 2.2 and memory, 2.7
I run it at Performance level with Speedstep enabled.
Could this be a coin cell battery issue ? Any help is greatly appreciated.
btw, the clock keeps good time
I decided to bypass the UPS to re-run the WEI (same results) the groung pin from the UPS cord stayed in the wall; could this have caused a minor short in a capacitor or other ?
also, yesterday the screen gave a few odd gyrations for no particular reason. And the Action Center has been complaining about a Sigmatel problem (driver) for many months but that got rectified.
