I am very much of an IT novice so please make your replies, if any, as simple as you can. Thank you.
Recently I have inherited a D820 without a HD (and subsequently without an OS. I installed a WD HD and bought a Ubuntu OS. I don't have any previous experience of laptos.
I have no idea about the previous performance of the laptop but now when I switch it on it initially seem to work normally but within about three minutes it slows down so much that opening or closing any application takes 30-45 seconds. The application windows open and close in a staggering fashion slowly dimming as they go. (I suspect that this dimming effect is the intended function of Ubuntu OS but Iam sure not the staggering.)
The laptop seem to get very hot underneath and I was wondering whether slowing down was due to that. Can Ubuntu OS be causing it?
I would be grateful for your diagnostic opinions and any possible remedies.
