Actually, the computer will boot now with RST disabled, and I don't see the error message anymore. I do notice that it takes longer to boot than it used to, though.
An update - when bringing the computer back up from hibernation this morning, I got a message saying that it detected a new drive in bay 2, and then the RST monitoring program gave me a warning, saying part of my system was at risk. It allowed me to turn on the mSATA drive and looks like I will be able to activate it again. Going to play with it after work.
