Installing Drivers on this XPS15-L521X has always been an ordeal since Dell shipped it with major discrepancies from my online order such as OS, Memory, etc.
Begged and finally received a Factory System Image on a hard drive that was accurate. Saved it on a SanDisk which the laptop does not recognize during Recovery process.
Gave up and installed W7HP from cd, then attempted to install fresh Drivers from Dell according to service tag:
-LAN connection, IE browser.
-Drivers installed in this order:
-BIOS
-CHIPSET (4)
-VIDEO (2)
-NETWORK (2)
*Second driver, Dell 1901 would not install.
-INPUT
-AUDIO
-SERIAL ATA
*Was prompted to restart a second time after this driver was installed. Message followed saying hard drive and dvd drive were ready to use.
-SYSTEM UTILITIES (2)
*Second driver, Intel Rapid Start Technology, would not install. Received message "Computer does not meet minimum requirements."
-APPLICATIONS (2)
*Second driver, Dell Digital Delivery, did not give "finish" message but was located in list of Programs after restart.
Inspection of Device Manager at this point revealed one error message in Network for "unknown network controller". Attempt to install Dell 1901 at this point failed.
i know the Dell 1901 Network driver is wrong, because Dell forgot to install a part to accommodate the Centrino Network driver during assembly even though i bought a Netgear Push2TV at the same time as the XPS, and the Centrino is mandatory to use Intel WiDi.
i believe the Rapid Start Technology was in the list of Programs when the Factory Image was installed, but since there's also an Intel Driver called Rapid Storage Technology that makes them easily confusable.
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, especially how i could leverage Dell to wrap this up without me wasting another day installing W7 then finding out they don't know which drivers my laptop ought to have, i would be so very, very grateful.
