I recently purchased a refurbished Dell laptop. It is still under warranty and I'm trying to make sure it is registered under my own name so that I can make use of the warranty if it becomes necessary. When going through the process on the Dell website I was required to do a transfer of ownership rather than a plain registration, and this requires the previous owner's details. As this was a refurbished laptop purchased at a retailer I do not have the previous owner's information (the retailer's name didn't match apparently), and they do not have the information I need on file. So I'm sort of at a loss as to what needs to be done to have the laptop and its warranty formally registered under my own name.
I read on a different thread that I could provide the invoice from the retailer and the laptop's service tag to have the transfer processed in lieu of providing a previous owner's registration information. Is this still true? If so, who can I contact to do this?
