Like a number of others, the A08 BIOS updated for my XPS 12 9q33 laptop failed and the machine will not boot (no Post, black screen, lit keyboard). Following stuff on the web, I am able to get it into bios recovery mode (fast fan, blinking power light) and it is clearly going out and reading my USB stick, but evidently it is not finding a file with the right name or format.
I extracted 9q33A08.hdr and 9q33A08.rom from the 9Q33A08.exe. I have tried placing these on the USB stick with various names (9q33A08.hdr, 9q33.hdr, CS_A08.hdr, CS_.hdr... and same for rom), but the USB stick just repeatedly cycles as if the recovery were repeatedly looking for a file it is not finding.
So, what files need to be on the USB and what should they be named?
It seems decidedly silly for a BIOS recovery system to be included (as it should be) and then for Dell to keep the recovery procedure a close secret. You do have to remove the bottom cover and unplug the battery, but the manual for the XPS 12 actually tells you how to do this.
The USB stick is an 8GB stick formatted FAT32.
