I have a new Inspiron 5548 with i7 and hybrid drive. The right side of the palm rest up through the top of the keyboard (by the number pad) gets very warm. Runs 90-95 degrees F at idle, between 100-105 under light loads, and I've seen it peak at 114 degrees F under a heavier load. It gets uncomfortable. All diagnostics pass. After 45 minutes with dell tech support, they wanted me to send it back under warranty to look at it. Since it was brand new, I returned it and purchased another one. The new one has the same issue. Anyone else with this issue? I believe the hard drive is in the lower right and the wireless card in the upper right, with the memory in between. I'm guessing the hard drive is causing the issue, although reviews for the hybrid drive don't seem to indicate it gets very hot. CPU fans seems to be working properly based upon sound and CPU temperatures.
During light usage Open Monitor is reporting the drive at 40 degree C/ 104 F. Palm rest just above it is showing 100-104 F, so all the heat seems to be going right up through the palm rest. Normal? Anyone else seeing this? Any hope if I replace the hybrid drive with an SSD my temps come down? I really like the computer, but it just isn't comfortable typing with the heat.
