I have owned numerous Dell Latitude models in the past (*** back to the D620). All have been very durable and reliable well past their 3-year warranty expiration. I've never required a hardware repair during the warranty period before.
I have owned a Latitude 6430u (ultrabook) for almost two years and I've been very pleased with it overall. But over the last few months, the hinges have caused the display to fall backward (from an upright position) with the slightest touch. I've never had hinge problems before, but they obviously aren't as robust as the ones on the regular notebook models.
I am covered by the original 3-year warranty until June 2016. I'm just trying to figure out how easy/difficult it will be to get them to replace the hinges under warranty. I have considered buying a set of the hinges for around $40 and installing them myself instead. But if they'll do it quickly and correctly, I'd rather not spend the cash.
Any thoughts or input?
