I'm helping a co-worker fix her sons laptop; when I got it, it wouldn't boot up. No OS found error would come up on the screen. After some testing the HDD proved to be bad.
It came with a WD 250GB Black HDD, I replaced it with a WD 500GB Black HDD, reloaded Windows 7 pro 64bit; all went well, did all Windows updates, AV, etc.
One week after returning to the owner, It came back with no boot issues; after running the same tests the HDD tested bad again; bios would see it but not any diagnostic software including WD Diag.
I warrantied the HDD with another WD 500GB Black HDD; reloaded etc, etc,; this second drive has failed also in less than a week of returning to the owner.
I'm on my third warranty replacement drive; this time they (WD) gave me a WD 750GB Black HDD, I reinstalled Windows 7 pro 64bit. I was uninstalling IE11 and it's stuck at "updating windows, do not turn off your pc". I wondering if this HDD just went south.
I used an external / USB HDD adapter to test using a Desktop Pc and Windows 7 wouldn't even see / recognize the drive. It would noticed I plugged in the External Device but it would see the HDD itself.
My Question:
Is it possible the laptop has issues where it's eating HDD's and how would I test it to find out?
Is it co-incidental that I've gotten multiple bad HDD's?
Any suggestions or ideas?
