Dead Inspiron 17R SE 7720

About month and a half after warranty expired (no pun intended) my Inspiron died. It was on a table for about two weeks, connected to power source. I used it week earlier without any problems. Unfortunately now, when I tried to switch it on, it refused to react to power button. The LED on power plug was off, so at first I thought I left it in standby (never happens to me...) and left PSU unconnected, so laptop drained battery. But PSU was connected.

  • When I disconnect PSU from laptop and power cycle it, the LED turns ON. As soon as I connect it to laptop, the LED goes off.
  • I did all suggested maintenance procedures, including removing battery and pressing power button for 5 secons to drain static charge. I did leave the laptop without power sources for a week to no avail.
  • As laptop is past warranty, I printed maintenance manual and did complete disassembly-assembly cycle to eliminate any dust buildup, loose connections or something metal being sucked-in and doing short circuit. I double checked all the connections, examined all the components in power area and discovered nothing. The rebuild was made in ESD controlled area, with conductive mat, grounding straps and all the honors required.

I'm very afraid the MoBo has gone to eternal sleep...
