I've owned several E6400s over the years for my business and my personal use. I've moved on to a Latitude 6430u, but I bought my mom an off-lease/refurb E6400 about 15 months ago. Recently, when it is switched from battery to AC power, the display turns off. The hard drive, keyboard backlight and indicator lights remain lit, so the display is the only component that turns off when the power adapter is connected. If the power cord is removed, the system reverts to battery power and the display comes back to life!?
I have checked every wire and connection between the display and system board and found no problems. i tried an alternate power adapter and the behavior was the same. At this point, I am inclined to believe that the problem lies in the system board itself.
Is there anything I'm missing that could be causing this? If not, I hope to find a used/refurbished motherboard that will make repairing it worth the cost and trouble. I really like the laptop (and so does she) but I can't spend more than $80-$100 to repair it.
