My screen is cracked. I can find three things online: 1. Entire assemblies, including the screen, the lid, everything; 2. The Digitizers for sale for the touchscreen models, and 3. (not what I need), replacement LCD screens for the non-touch models.
None of the pictures or descriptions I've found yet have definitively answered this question, and I haven't dismantled my screen yet (because it still partly works), so perhaps someone here knows.
Does option 2, the digitizer include the display portion too? I can't tell for sure if it's a piece of glass OVER an LCD screen below, or if the digitizer includes everything. (In other words, I'm trying to make sure I don't go buy the digitizer, only to discover that the digitizer and LCD are two separate items, and I find out (Murphy's law), that "Oh, the digitizer was fine, it's the LCD screen that's cracked", or something to that effect.
- EDIT: {Ok, I've partly answered my own question, I found a higher quality photo, so clearly the digitizer is a separate piece of glass. Is there a way to tell before a full dismantle if the underlying screen is damaged too? Thanks}
The links I've found are:
- Entire assembly (at this exact moment, out of stock, and also more expensive than just the digitizer) - www.parts-people.com/index.php;id=15619
- Digitizer only: (example) - http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/135-118071-27809/Dell-Inspiron-15-3521-LCD-Touch-Screen.html
Thanks in advance. And P.S. to Dell... 6 transferred calls when I was investigating if this was under warranty. Congratulations...
