Re: Integrated webcam in XPS 17 L702x stopped working and did not appear in Device Manager

Hello to the many of you sharing this true and persistant annoyance with disappeared integrated (disintegrated?) WebCam.

My config:  Dell XPS 17 L702X

All drivers and softwares up to date. Migrated from Win7 home to Win8 Pro 64, and everything was ok for months.

After an update from Skype, lost the webcam on Skype only. And after a few days of reading the fora in search for an explanation and trying out a few suggested solutions (reinstall previous versions of Skype), lost even the trace of the existence of any webcam. Nothing anywhere to be found (Device Mngr, Sys Info, etc).

Checked and tried all I could find on Dell threads and fora. This discussion seems the most advanced so far.

However, nothing works still, even after numerous reinstalls, flashes, and reboots.  Btw, my latest BIOS version is A19, of 07sep12.

The Quadra webcam driver, downloaded from the Dell driver page seems to install ok, but still no trace of it or the webcam anywhere.

Dell Webcam Central responds invariably 'No supported webcam found', as well as the 'Camera' app of Win8.

Tired and fed up with all the wasted time and frustration.

When will Dell update the drivers pages for Win8, and give a simple, complete, and correct solution to this problem, known for way too long now (at least since 2009)?

   Eagerly awaiting a true response.

Cheers.
