One of the troubleshooting steps in resolving this type of issue is connecting a good known ac adapter in order to ascertain whether the issue is with a bad AC Adapter or the motherboard itself. You can try connecting an alternate ac adapter to the system. If it works fine, then the issue would be resolved.
If the replacement AC adapter LED remains lit up on connecting to the laptop but does not power it up, you may need to replace the motherboard.
