Re: Inspiron 17R will not boot (5720)

Thanks for the reply. In the case of my 7720, 2 problems.

1. It does not boot from any Legacy drive. You only see the 'Removable Drive' option in the Legacy menu but it does not work hence I cannot boot from a bootable USB or CD etc to DOS otherwise the problem would've been solved.

2. I can Add Boot Option but as you must understand, that only lets you add a UEFI boot option. And I have only been successfully able to add a Windows 8 ISO (bootx64.efi) option. Booting to that USB only gets me to the Windows 8 Installation menu. And from there I use the 'Advanced Option' and than the 'Command prompt' to access the prompt. But when I try to run the BIOS update from there, I get a "The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present." error. Hence my dilemma.

I need a way to either add a UEFI boot option from where I can execute the BIOS updater. Can anyone please tell me any ISO that I can use to create a bootable USB that would let me add the UEFI option and then consequently run the 32bit BIOS update exe from there? OR anyway I can run the standard DOS shell. Like I have said before, all I need is once chance to run the updater. Please help. Thanks.
