Employers usually supply business-grade systems - there's a world of difference between a Probook or Elitebook and a consumer-grade Pavilion, etc., just as there is between a Latitude or Precision and an Inspiron. And $1,000 for a 17" notebook is low-end to lower-midrange at best -- hardly high end.
All of the major vedors supply similar feature sets at any given price point -- you can't compare systems that are out of range with each other.
