Dell Inspiron 7437 - Trouble starting - performed multiple tests

My laptop (Inspiron 7437) will not boot up/ turn on. I have done the following:

- made sure a/c charger is fully plugged in (and I used multiple outlets, and the light is illuminated)

- disconnected the battery for 30 seconds while a/c is unplugged. Tried to reboot, and it worked up to the "battery is crucially low, press f1 to continue" and then it went back to its usual not turning on.

- tried starting the laptop while the battery is unplugged and the a/c charger is plugged in, and still does the same thing.

- unplugged the battery, held power button for 30 seconds,  reconnected the battery and then tried booting, no luck.

- unplugged and reconnected a/c power charging port. Still nothing.

The following is my best description of the issue:

Where the charging and battery level indicator lights are (two on the front left of the base of the computer). When I press power, both lights turn on, and the keyboard flashes on then off, then the left light slowly fades and just before the light turns off, the right light flashes and they both go off. If I hold the power button down for a couple seconds, the keyboard lights up, stays lit, and you can hear the components turn on and power up, then the whole computer and keyboard shut off after a few seconds. This happens whether I have the power button pressed or not. My feeling is the charging port needs to be replaced, but would appreciate a second opinion. I contacted Dell Support via email and they simply said to call, but I am abroad in the U.K.  until the 9th of January,so email and this message board are my only hope. Thanks in advance
