I've a Dell XPS 17 l702x Windows 7 ( 64 bit ) for a long time, finally it said stop, the hard drive burned out, but i just bought 2 new harddrives and installed them, and now the only problem is that i need the 'Dell XPS 17 l702x drivers and utilities 64 bit' DVD.set.

Only to when i am half done installing windows it pops up, and says that  need the DVD to install drivers and there and i am stuf and cant get furtherI. I've looked everywhere and i can only find something what appears to be drivers, but they are all individual downloads and i dont know if i can use that for anything, i dont know if the can be made into a  'Start up DVD'`? . But  if so then i have no idea how to do it.
What i was thinking of if anyone out there know a place where i can buy the DVD installation set or anything?..

Any info helps, i really want this laptop working again, right now i am stuck using this slow laptop made for school work, checking news and stuff, and it not that fun, hehe!.

Boot and 100% disk usage problem

Dell Inspiron 3543

Intel Core i7-5500U CPU

NVIDIA Geforce 840M

Windows 8.1

4GB RAM

500GB HDD

Why is it taking a long bootup time?

My bootup time is ~2 mins without fast bootup and ~30 sec with fast bootup. I have got only a solution of using fast bootup : en.community.dell.com/.../19666898

Sometimes the disk usages goes to 100% which causes the computer to be unresponsive.

At times, I feel if this is the speed of a i7 computer.

Is it the problem of the OS?

15R 5537 i5 won't power on / no POST

When I press the power button, the only response is LED1 (power LED) in this sequence:

ON 10s, OFF 4s, ON 10s, OFF 4s, ...

There is no beep, no sound, no fan, nothing on the screen. I've tried all these suggestions:

  • remove battery
  • remove hard drive
  • remove DVD drive
  • discharge built-up static charges
  • reseat RAM
  • put RAM in only one slot
  • reseat heatsink (CPU is soldered on - cannot be reseated)
  • put in another set of known good RAM
  • swap out CMOS battery
  • BIST
    • Hold key D while pressing the power button
    • Hold key Fn while pressing the power button

Any idea what the problem is? Anything else for me to try/check? Please help. Thanks.

XPS 13 and XPS 13 Developer Edition differences

$

I have a few questions about XPS 13, don't really know where else to ask them as distributors in my country haven't been able to answer them:

  1. Is there any difference in hardware with XPS 13 and XPS 13 Developer edition?
  2. If there is no difference and I remove Win10 from XPS 13 and install Ubuntu, where can I find the drivers that are already preloaded on XPS 13 Developer Edition?
  3. XPS 13 Developer Edition is listed as available in North America and Europe - I'm from Croatia, Europe and for a few months now I've been given negative replies from distributors on my availability inquires saying the model is not available and they don't know when it will be available. Is there a number I can call for Dell EU to get more information on this?

Thanks!

Hi All,

Presently looking for the Basic In Out System manual

Primary so can set / remove ATA password on PCI-Express SSD as part of dell's opal standard, was confirmed by sales team that the Samsung 950 would support Hardware encryption so don't have to rely  on software.

Data transfer tests fail on devices connected under USBIF certified hub, connected to type-C port of Dell XPS 13

AJA System Test fails on one or more of the external USB 3.0 hard disk drives connected under USBIF compliant USB 3.0 Hub (VIA KGH / Cypress HX3 / Microchip) which is connected to the Type-C port of Dell XPS13 running Windows 10, 64 Bit OS.

Test Setup and steps to replicate the issue:
1. Self powered USB 3.0 hub connected to the Type-C port of the Dell XPS13 using a Type-C receptacle t0 Type-C plug.
2. Four USB 3.0 Hard disk drives connected to the downstream ports of the USB 3.0 hub.
3. Following test tool is installed and run (4 instances run, one instance each for each of the hard drives connected to the Dock)
https://www.aja.com/assets/products/files/90/AJA_SystemTest-2.1.0-x64.msi
Following are the tool settings:
3a. 'Test File Size' = 512 MB
3b. 'Settings > Run Continuously' selected
The tool does continuous cycles of read / write to the selected Mass Storage device
4. USB traffic is captured on the upstream port of the USB 3.0 hub in continuous recording mode
5. One of the instances of the tool reports failure to access the drive after about 10 to 30 minutes after starting the test. Stop recording the USB traffic.

Sample set of Mass Storage devices used:

1. SinapisTek Poseidon Pocket SSD 128GB
2. Apacer AS710 USB 3.0 Portable SSD 128GB
3. Seagate Expansion 1TB HDD
4. BUFFALO HD-PZFU3 1TB HDD

Other observations:

1. Issue not seen on other Windows 10, 64 Bit platforms (Intel Series 7 chipset Desktop, latest Macbook, etc.)

2. During the test, it is seen that the data transfer to some of the devices pauses at times for no apparent reason and resumes at times. At times, it does not resume and the test fails.

3. USB trace seems to suggest issue with the host (see attached areas of concern - screenshots)

4. On data transfer failure, the disk(s) on which the failure has occurred is not accessible from windows explorer as well even as the other devices under the USB 3.0 hub continues to work.

Latitude E7470: second SSD possible?

$

Hello all,

is it possible to add a second SSD into the E7470 it's wwan port?

I allready got a 256Gb M.2 SSD by default. In the manual I can found that there is an 'optional PCI-E' possible but on the location displayed in the manual, I can't see any options.

I read that with other latitudes, the WWAN port can be used, is it the case too with the E7470? If yes, what SSD do I need to buy?

Thanks in advance!

Upgrading WiFi adapter for Windows 10

$

Hi!

I am using Inspiron 17R SE 7720 (Service Tag: B8P81W1 | Express Service Code: 24470701201). The BIOS firmware is latest (A17).

This laptop is included in "Computers tested for upgrade to Windows 10".

However I expect problems in Windows 10 when going to sleep mode and/or entering powersave mode - WiFi stops working after waking up. It is a well-known problem and it is caused by Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 wi-fi adapter used in my laptop. The problem is driver-based and Intel has no plan to solve it because the adapter is obsolete.

I am going to upgrade my laptop replacing Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 with new Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260. It has the same form-factor and officially supports Windows 10.

Please let me know is there any restriction in BIOS those prevent changing WiFi adapter in this way?

Hi -

I just got this wonderful laptop about a month ago and it's been working like a pro and I really love it. But now sure what happen today 10 June,  I left home and came back a few hours later only to find out that my laptop will not turn on. I have followed some instructions using videos from Dell support. Nothing works.

1. AC adapter works fine

2. Removed battery and pushed the power button and tried with direct AC connection. Does not work.

Is there something that I'm missing.  I need to get this fixed. I have exams and assignments that I have to work on in the next 2 weeks and all of my data is on the laptop and I cannot afford to lose my laptop. This laptop was gifted to me. I am currently based on NZ.

Can somebody please help me. Please.

Screen Fades - Dell Inspiron 15 7547

My Fiancee has been having some trouble with her laptop screen. The screen would be fine for a little while, and without warning, the screen would fade to black. It becomes completely unresponsive, and she would have to perform a hard restart. This issue has become more and more frequent. Has anyone else experienced this issue, or have an idea of what could be happening? I would replace the screen for her, but what if it's more than just the screen, or something else?

Yet another thread for XPS 13 9343 faulty touchpad

$

I have using a XPS 13 9343 for about 7 months and have been satisfied with almost everything regarding the hardware EXCEPT the touchpad. I know that there are lots of other people here with the same problem.

The touchpad sometimes:
- makes the cursor shake and/or move on its own
 without any user input
- generates ghost clicks
- freezes totally

The problems occur somewhat randomly, but more often if the laptop has been in sleep mode instead of power off. Sometimes the problems start right away, sometimes after x minutes/hours of use.

So far I've tried everything from changing settings, un-/reinstalling drivers, upgrading BIOS and also making sure that the touchpad is clean, but nothing makes the problem go away. So far I've just lived with the problem and used USB mouse if needed. However, I really need a laptop that works as expected and since the problem has persisted regardless of driver updates etc, I have to start making decisions what to do next.

Any ideas? Has anyone actually got a faulty trackpad working with just driver upgrades or should I start demanding changing the unit to a new one?

External Monitor(s) - Inspiron 15 5000 Series Laptop

$

I would like to setup one, preferably two, external monitors on an Inspiron 15 5000 Series Laptop.

I would like the monitors to work independently (extended?)  ie: Be able to use all *two/three separately - shuffle open windows/pages around between them ..

What do I need to do/buy?

I have not bought monitors yet, but have a source for some used corporate surplus. Going to assume they are not 'the latest greatest' and only have standard hookups (vga or dvi?)

Thanks and appreciation in advance ..
