I had purchased Dell Inspiron 3551 Notebook in June, 2015. My notebook keeps randomly shutting down automatically. There is no blue screen, no warning, it just shuts down automatically.

I don't have much software installed and overheating does not seem to be the problem. I have run system diagnostics but there were no issues highlighted.

To be sure I have completely formatted the system but the problem remains

Any solution to resolve this would be a great help.

Can't seem to find any answers anywhere. Thanks!

I asked our company admin person who liase with Dell already. But I would like to understand it for myself too.

I have a company laptop which is under Next Business Day warranty. I am traveling to Europe now. It got broken. I called Dell support yesterday. They said - tomorrow an engineer will come and fix. Received call from them this morning saying - there are no parts, so nobody is coming. I asked - when are you going to have the parts, they said - we dont know.

They spoke little english so I contacted Euro Dell support over the chat and got the same response. When I asked for an estimate, the chat person said :

"At this time xxxxx, there is no estimated time of the availability. As soon as the parts will be available, you will be inform about that. Is there anything else?"

I mean if I get something like this in 2010 I wont be surprised. Crisis and all.. But now it seems weird.

I assumed warranty to business customers somewhat legally binding.. Is that not so?

    Whats the procedure to complain?

    Hi!

    (Ref. Dell Inspiron 15z 5523, i7-3517u.)

The motherboard needs to be replaced. Buying from Dell is too expensive so I'm looking for a refurbished.

The motherboard has the text "1319F" and "GNR2R". When checking with Dell they said that the motherboard with part number "CFYJK" would work as well, but unfortunately way too expensive.

Question: What other motherboard would be able to use? I can't find any "GNR2R" on the net, but several others. Surely, there has to be an alternative but how can I find out?

    Help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thnx, Joakim

    Hello,

I am experiencing a weird problem on XPS 13 9345 (early 2015) after update to Windows 10 (drivers installed through Windows Update): when I disconnect an external monitor the screen starts flickering and the only solution is reboot the computer.

This is the video drivers version I am using: 10.18.15.4256

    Any suggestion ?

As the title says, there is no display whatsoever on the screen, the fans start to run very loudly after a few seconds, and it beeps when I press any key.

This happens roughly 50% of the time when I switch it on, the other 50% it just turns on with no display, but without the fan issue or beeping/

Is it dead? What little research I've done on the matter points to it being a motherboard failure, but my experience in this area is limited.

The laptop is around 3 years old and has been used fairly intensively for a number of purposes including gaming (I have had it shut down from overheating a number of times, so heat damage may be a possibility).

Any input whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

  • 09/01/15--04:11: Vostro 2520 3 Beeps
  • I bought vostro 2520 in march last year. 6 months after the warranty, the laptop suddenly doesn't boot. only 3 beeps, which shows motherboard failure.

I mean only 1 and a half year later, the motherboard fails, is it really the quality DELL is known for.

this was my 1st laptop, and probably now i know, the next one ain't going to be DELL, this is for sure.

I got a new Inspiron 15 3000 series 4th gen i7 with Win 8.1 few weeks back and had the system upgraded to windows 10. It was functioning ok until I updated the dell drivers and BIOS using pre-installed "dell update software". Both drivers & BIOS update went through smoothly but since then if I keep the lap in sleep mode or just close the lid completely and keep it for few hours it gets hot and battery gets drained to zero. Some times you can not even switch on or sometimes I have to remove the battery and re-insert it to start the system. Any suggestions?

    Hi,

I am using a E6420 and am currently running Win 10 prof 64bit from a clean install I did yesterday. It works pretty good so far but I'm not able to control the screen brightness with the function keys. This worked perfectly fine on win 7 prof 64bit. Can anyone relate and help me?

My computer won't boot up and I am getting the above error when I try to.  There is also a crackling noise coming from inside the computer when it's trying to boot up.  Any thoughts?  I tried running diagnostics but no errors were found.

    I found this article: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-laptop-upgrade-optical-bay,3102.html

Has anyone done this successfully?  I want to upgrade my 2011 Dell 14z, as I almost never use the optical drive.

    Thanks!

My laptop occasionally won't turn on. No fans, lights, etc. I can get it to turn on by holding the power button or pressing it multiple times. It seems to happen more after sitting off overnight with the AC adapter plugged in. Although when I unplug the charger it still has difficulty starting. I have a Dell Inspiron 7437 running windows 10. All drivers/BIOS are up to date. The laptop is just over a year old.

Troubleshooting steps I have taken include running the pre-boot assessment and Dell diagnostics. Doing a clean install of Windows 10 (this problem occurred 2 weeks after installing Windows 10, although I don't think they are related). I have read about static build-up and think this may be the problem. However, my battery is not removable and I don't know of a permanent solution if this is in fact the problem. (I have read to remove the battery and AC adapter and press the power button to release static buildup). The power button appears to be making good contact.

My other guess is something is wrong with the battery. However, it says the battery is working and has 92% health.

I am having problems with my Latitude e6410. My power button will light for a moment and turn off. 3 lights that look like lock icons will remain on. They are blue and the middle one with an A on it will flash and then stop flashing. I've tried it with the power cord and then the battery and then both. I unplug the power cord and removed the battery to hold the power button down . I then tried to power on with the power cord and then the battery.

No luck.. any other suggestions or answer to what is happening to the laptop?

    Dear Dell Customer Support,

I recently purchased a XPS 13, which, despite some challenges with the touchpad, works just fine. In order to boost the battery capabilities and independence from power sources I purchased a power companion. The first charges however, despite being for 8 hours (1st), and 14 hours (2nd) indicate (via LED lights) that the companion is only charged for 60% (3 LED lights). This is rather frustrating, because it defeats the purpose of a power companion, wouldn't you agree?

Could you please advice on how to proceed to achieve the full charge on this device?

    Your assistance is highly appreciated.

    Yours faithfully

    Prof Phil

I recently purchased 2 Dell Inspiron 1500 Touch Screen Laptops.  The Left side of the keyboard stopped working on the 1st one 3 days ago, and the 2nd one  went out today.  These are were both purchased 25 days ago.  Nothing has been spilled on them.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

I have a brand new XPS 13, 9343 model with i7 processor and 512GB SSD. I am still within the 14 day cooling off period, and I'm now seriously considering returning it. I have never experienced such a load of nonsense trying to install any other piece of software.

So far, and after many attempts, I've been totally unable to upgrade to Windows 10. The very first thing I did was install all available Windows updates for 8.1 (there were 79 of them), and immediately after that I began the Win10 install saga. Nothing else has been done to the laptop - no dodgy software or USB devices (other than the boot USB where necessary). It is in a clean state.

    - After downloading through Windows Update, the installation procedure is INCREDIBLY slow (eg it takes 36 HOURS to reach 42% completion - and at this point it hits the error message). What on earth can it be doing??

    - I also tried creating a bootable USB through the media creation tool. If I boot from this USB drive and perform a "clean" install, this works perfectly - it takes about 8 minutes in total (which emphasises how ridiculous the 36 hours is). However, because it is a clean install and not an "upgrade", I end up with a non-activated version of Windows 10 and I get prompted to pay £99.99, which I have no intention of doing. I paid for the laptop on the understanding it would get a FREE upgrade to Win10!

    - I have also tried using the USB (but not booting from it) to perform the in-place upgrade - this hits the same error as Windows Update does (and takes just as long)

    - I have tried uninstalling all antivirus software and disabling all wireless/bluetooth devices before attempting the upgrade - none of this helps. Given that it takes me 36 HOURS per attempt, it's really not acceptable to try disabling random things in the vain hope it might work correctly.

When attempting the upgrade (i.e. not clean installation), I hit an error message "Windows Setup cannot configure Windows on your hardware" or similar. When resuming after the failure, the setup tool gives the error code 0xC1900101 0x30018, and says it failed in operation "FIRST_BOOT", phase SYSPREP. Just getting to this error message costs me 36 hours of waiting (welcome to the future!), so it would really help if someone could give a definite answer on what causes it...

    Please help! Auuughhh

  • 09/03/15--15:40: 6420 with bad screen
  • Hi all, I have an interesting issue...

I have a Lattitude 6420 that has a bad monitor. It stays black never lights up at all and shining a flashlight on it I do not see anything so unfortunately it's not just a backlight.

I need to do a system restore. I was able to create the system restore media no problem. The big issue is that the system does not see and boot of the CD. So I would need to get into bios to tell it to boot from cd.

With the bad screen I can not see to get into bios as an external monitor only fires up once it's into Windows.

Can someone point me to a video or screenshots of the screens needed to blindly go into bios and set the dvd to boot 1st? or is there some other way to do it without requiring bios?

I have tried both F8 and F12 to get to a boot screen but since I can't see anything I am not sure if either key combo is working.

    looking for help....

    thanks

    vince

End of February, I purchased a Dell XPS 13 notebook (i7-5500, 512Gb SSD, touchscreen version). I updated the system to Windows 10 about a month ago (August 1st), and installed new Windows 10 drivers from Dell. Since Monday August 31, my keyboard is malfunctioning. All of this coincided, but need of course not be related to Mondays Windows' update. The symptoms are as follows:
    1. The keyboard stops working, none of the keys respond to typing;
    2. The keyboard backlight is suddenly switched on;

A third symptom that may or may not be related is that the colour of the battery light occasionally changes to solid orange (normally indicating a nearly exhausted battery) even when battery is fully charged, and the power adapter is plugged in.

The touchpad, attached mouse, and touchscreen keyboard still work fine. The keyboard problem seems to be intermittent. On reboot things are usually as normal, but after a while the keyboard will start malfunctioning, requiring an annoying reboot.

Needless to say I did run a full system scan (Norton 360) to check for malware, etc. As expected, the test found no problems.

Most likely, the keyboard malfunction is caused by some software problem. How do I solve this?
