After much research, I had requested for a E5450 to be issued at work (since it sounded like a good choice to run Linux). Got one, only to find that it is has a buggy BIOS. Updated to the new BIOS (A07) and now have the below listed troubles.
- Random reboots, for no apparent reason.
- Undocking from a Dell E port replicator dock causes a reboot. This issue is consistent. Though, this is mentioned as a supported accessory. Docking doesn't cause a reboot, only undocking does.
- Random slow reboots.
- Hibernate/suspend does not work at all.
- Audio is terribly choppy and flaky. Random hang up as well. (keeps repeating the same sequence for about 15 secs and stops with a 3 second beep)
- This comes with a hybrid hard drive. Looks like the fall sensor is too sensitive to the extent that the machine cannot be used while on a bus/car at all. And while doing so, machine reboots a lot, randomly.
- Upon high loads, the machine just randomly reboots - specifically while running on battery.
- Extremely bad battery backup. Battery doesn't last for > 1 hr, with no load on the machine (just a few terminal sessions and one instance of chrome with max 5 tabs open).
Anybody else facing a similar issue with an E5450?
